Default Steam vs. Retail Copy and Issues with Game

If you have had issues with the game (crashes, bad optimization, etc...), do you own a retail copy or steam copy?

Im curious to see the results.

I don't understand what difference it makes, as even the retail copies installs it into Steam. The only way it is affected is that installing it from two DVD's are faster than downloading the whole thing off Steam.

    this.

i found Steam more convenient as i could use Paypal to buy and DL immediately instead of walking in the rain to the store. i've had no crashes in 22 hours of play and the game runs smooth and fine with no issues

my eternal thanks to the EB team for making R:TW such an epic game, and to TWC and all other modders for pushing the boundaries with each Total War title .

idk if there should be a difference, but this thread could help see. So far only 4 people have voted but all of them chose boxed copy

I think most people got the box version anyway because of the LE, therefor more people with problems that have the boxed version. But they should be identical, as Arakorn said.

Hey guys, the point is only to vote if you have problems running the game.

That way we can see which version most commonly has problems.

Yeah, but the way the poll is setup, there's no way to tell. You're asking that only people who have problems vote which version they got... that's not going to tell you anything. You'd need to have people vote who ARE NOT having issues as well (of course, this is relative so even this would need clarification). Then you would get a better idea of how many of which are having problems vs not.

All you might be able to tell from your poll is which sold more... steam or boxed. If we don't really know the answer to that, then there's no way to tell if any is having more issues than the other.

    Right.

If 20 people bought the boxed version and 10 of them voted, you won't know about the 10 who don't have issues.

And if 10 people bought the steam version and 5 of them voted, you'd only know about those 5. Then you might incorrectly assume that since 10 box users and only 5 steam users voted that boxed is the problem... when in fact in each case it's 50%, meaning there is no statistical difference between the two.

And you'd probably need to be more specific about which "issues" people should be having before they vote. Some might vote because because of a relatively minor bug or because they just don't like how something works in the game.
