well... at least for me it is, slightly.
I love the game, I went already very far in my Chôsokabe campaign, controlling Shikoku, Kyûshu, and the seas around.
I love the battles, the sieges, the unit details.
I love the economy, the diplomacy.

But even with all these good points, when I compare the games to a modded ETW, vanilla NTW, M2TW campaign there seem to be less "depth" in the S2 campaign, battles, the choice and the huge variety of different units you can see on a battlefield.
The pope and crusades in MTW, the whole ideological conflicts you can almost "feel" in ETW/NTW, make the game richer than S2.

So all in all, and it's fully subjective, not pretending to "convert" anybody, S2 campaigns are soulless.
Technically better but lacking the depth of the previous TW games.

I concur. I find the game to be great, but it could have had even more soul added to it by adding more roleplay encounters and also by perhaps having individual quests for generals or agents to complete. Such as, general X must capture province A in order to restore his family's honor. Or ninja Z must track down and slay ninja W in order to reclaim a stolen heirloom.

Wouldn't it be sweet if they finished these quests and these characters would gain more traits and retainers etc.

Mercenaries would also be pretty cool. Perhaps each province having a unique unit type that you could only recruit and replenish in said province. That would give us 40? extra unique units. We could have some really bizarre and outlandish unit types and also many historical Ronin lords or heroes.

If CA would read this post and add it to the game, it would be perfect in my opinion.

Well I feel a lot more immersion actually.

Just today one of my generals defended a castle to the death. In the end it was just him and the enemy general that where left, along with several bodyguards. The enemy general killed my bodyguard, and the next time I fought him there where four other enemy generals in that army. Because generals look unique this time, I could spot him and kill him with my leader. (who was slain by an asigaru pikemen right after that despite the enemy army being on the verge of routing.)

The unique appearances of generals and the slower passing of time adds tons more immersion to generals. But they do need to keep their own appearance when they become clan leader, that seems to be more than a bug than a feature to me, especially when some clan leaders have a terrible appearance.

I wish they made agents unique like this as well, with different portraits and appearances.

And yes, some missions would be nice for them. If they flee from a battle they could get several seasons to redeem themselves before being ordered to commit sepuku.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. For me immersion come when you actually care about your characters. I missed things like battle speeches in the last two games. Generals and their traits were few and far between and even when they came it would be for a politician I didn't care about. In S2 I actually feel connected to my generals, with their levelling etc. I love the family tree. Diplomacy actually works. All in all I care about my generals and how they do. Also helps I guess that I love the culture and history
