Default Difference between major and minor clans?

Is it me or is there no difference whatsoever between the playable major clans and the unplayable minor clans?
Let's look at the facts :

-Almost all clans start with one province.

-Almost all armies are the same

-Minor clans are able to conquer just as much as major clans are(I've seen the Sagura take over the "Shimazu Island"(let's call it that) and successfully destroying the Shimazu in the progress) and the Imagawa dominating Eastern Japan with the Date)

-The AI doesn't really use the playable clan's traits to full effect(Shimazu don't really use a lot of Katanas, Hattori don't really spam ninjas, Takeda don't really use a lot of cavalry etc)

-In my Hattori campaign, I've seen the : Oda, Tokugawa, Shimazu, Uesegi and Mori clan all get wiped out easily by "lesser" clans.

So REALLY, what's the difference between the 9 "major" clans and the other minor ones?(in the game, not in history)

I believe that the minor clans were historically less successful in comparison to the 10 great clans, but I could be wrong. I seem to have misplaced my BA in Japanese medieval history.

I forgot to add that I meant in the game, not in history. I know that the major clans were...well more prestigious than the unplayable ones.

In RTW, for instance, in every single one of my campaigns Julii destroyed Gaul. They want it to be random so that every campaign isn't the exact same clans prevailing. I also think that the A.I. of the major clans is more aggressive than the minor clans, which helps a little.
Dunno, clans like the Oda and Mori always seem to get crushed in my campaigns

Oda usally die on the first turn in my non-Oda games. In my Oda games they WOULD be crushed in the first turn if I wasn't controlling the defense of their starting castle.

The major clans have special units and some bonuses, I think the minor clans are all generic.

Minimal stat and upkeep bonuses, and the same models with different colored armor. All clans are generic. tbh. Some clans have upkeep penalties and identical to vanilla stats for their special units in the encyclopaedia, no idea why.

The 10 Major clans have different AI to the minors. Though it doesn't seem to show any discernable difference ingame.

It's kind of weird but many of the "major" clans tend to die off very early very consistently (Shimazu, Mori, Oda, Tokugawa, Uesugi, Date).

And yeah, the campaign map is kind of lonely with the Oda dying off on the first turn every game. I once made a vassal out of them and they are simply one of the very best clans to have as a vassal. It would be nice to see how they behave if they can ever get past that first turn.

Maybe the major clan's AI needs to be more aggressive? And maybe they should start with a bigger military force...especially the Oda who always get steamrolled. I'm actually getting interested to play as them

I have seen only Shimazu, Uesugi, Oda, Mori and Hojo getting steamrolled by minor clans.

    That's half the clans
Pretty big number imo, considering you're playing as one of the major clans...

The main difference to me seems to be that for major factions, people complain about them getting destroyed.

    This!

Whenever I'm not playing Oda, Oda is the same as any other can getting destroyed for me. There's about 5 clans or so getting destroyed in the first two turns. I don;t really care more about the fact that one of them is Oda.

The AI of the minors is messed up, because it's too strong, while some others AI (Oda, Mori) is too weak and not based on their traits. Hope they'll fix this in the next patch
