Default Ticked off by the intro video too?

you see the two armies standing, the two men going towards each other and fighting. the more samurai looking soldier from the invaders kills his opponnent and then he gets shot in the back?? LAME! i demand revenge! makes me angry, cause it makes em seem like a lot of honorless people, and we are playing a game which stereotypes the japanese honor, so I expecteed a lil bit more

Yes, that was "lame" as you say, which is why the general got angry and sent his troops to attack. There's your revenge.

Well, it's accurate in depicting that for the most part honor was spoken of but rarely practiced. All the talk of honorable samurai etc was an invention of samurai living long after the sengoku period. Edo period samurai needed role models, and when there weren't any, they created them. The notions of bushido were mostly invented in the long age of peace during the Edo period.

I think the point is that this is total war, such obsolete notions as duels to decide the fate of entire armies/regions are long gone. The times are now much more pragmatic, and an honourable clan will be a shortlived clan.

Effectively the intro sets the stage, this is war and it certainly isn't pretty.

The Japanese are no more honorable than any other culture on Earth. It's a stereotype similar to the misconceptions about chivalry in Europe. All men are capable of cruelty, brutality, and shameful behavior. And history has shown that when given the opportunity, most will do so under the right circumstances. Take a look at some of the "honorable" behavior of the Japanese during WWII for a disturbing example of this...attack on Pearl Harbor, brutality towards the Chinese during occupation, and the brutality towards American and English POW's. And this was during a time when "honor" was supposedly a huge part of their culture.

The Japanese brutality to military prisioners and subject population was based on thier interpritation of Honor. A "honorable soldier should die fighting-never surender" therfore these prisioners where "contemptible disonerable men" to the Japanese mind. The same consept to civilian prisioners. If they where honerable they would die fighting or kill themselves in shame. Men & women, old & young......

Honor, piety, chivalry, even lawfulness......all goals set by a socitey that most fail a one time or another and many fail often...

It reminds me of Mount and Blade: Warband multiplayer.

Serves the winning guy right for being dumb enough to go into arrow range for his duel.

My very simple point is that the idea that the Japanese exibit some higher degree of "honor" as it pertains to warfare is a myth. All men are capable of dishonorable behavior, and this is proven by history.

Seeing that i already deleted some posts for off topic reasons makes me wonder if this thread will stay on track or even derail further. I am going for the latter part and there for will close the thread as it doesn't really bring any thing worth discussing in to the foreground. If you think otherwise feel free to contact me true PM and explain to me why this topic should be reopened.
