Can anyone tell me how to change the banners over cities and armies on the campaign map? I did it for Macedon a long time ago, but can't remember how. I can't even find the files, so do I need to extract a pak or something?

i've changed those banners they affected the battle map but the strat map ones are the same, is it different in bi![]()
The ones that appear above cities when it is garrisoned are found in the data\banners folder. Multiple factions banners are found in 1 file. The ones that appear over an ungarrisoned city are in data\models_strat.

OK, but those files have four pictures on them. If I were to replace the file it would replace the banners for all four factions on that file, would it not? How would I go about changing an individual faction's banners?

Just edit the relevant faction icon in those files, then it will only change the one you want.

Yeah, I already tried that. But when I convert the file back to .tga.dds format, I get grey boxes around the symbols on the strat map.

that means the alpha channel hasn't been done properly.

OK, I'm competent at the basics of image editing, but I'm not familiar with alpha channels. What program is needed and how do I "do" them properly?

I use PSP 8, but I don't know if it can edit alpha channels. Do I need 3ds Max or something similar?

I've found a reference to alpha channels under Layers > Load/Save Mask > Load Mask from Alpha Channel. I'm a little lost as to what to do. How would you do it with your program?

Well what does an alpha layer do and what's wrong with mine?

I use PSP as apposed to photoshop aswell. I don't have it installed at the moment though, so I'll try to help as best as I can from memory. PSP uses a tool called a mask.. which is very similar to an alpha chennel. If the image already had an alpha layer, you can import that to a mask layer in one of the menues at the top. Then you can edit it, and re-write the alpha fromt he mask within the same menu. To edit it, you check or uncheck the little gunglasses-like icon on your layers window (a little floating window, unless you attached it to the main window).
If no one else posts a more concrete tutorial on this, I will boot up my laptop which has PSP7 on it and tell you exactly how to do it. but that won't be until late tonight.. I have to go to work in 5 minutes.

an aplha channel specifys which part of a texture is transparent. With yours it sounds like not all of the area that should be transparent is being made transparent.
