Do you pause in battle?

Just wondering what's everyones views when it comes to pausing midway in a battle to look over the state of the battle and move everything around accordingly etc

Played alot of sc2 recently, kind of feel like I'm cheating the system somehow with perfect positioning if I start pausing

These threads always degenerate into flamewars with MP people flaming SP people as n00bs for pausing.
As a rule of thumb I try not to pause unless I need to do some real life stuff.

I came into MTW2 from playing SC, AoE, and other RTS games mostly multi where you couldn't pause. I think I played first couple campaigns without pausing at all. Gradually I started to pause more and more as played less multi and more SP- though I do usually play most battles on 6x speed so I don't feel too bad about pausing.

Its actually not as important in MTW2... so it is much easier. Since the units are not discrete. The only unit I spend much time on is the general. Though I think having played SC alot makes some of the battles easier for me than I've heard other people say. I've only felt pressured in a couple battles in MTW2 whereas in SC I felt rushed every single battle.

I pause, when the need calls. Usually I pause when I need to have my archers target specific units - otherwise it's pretty much unnecessary (except, of course, when that darn RL stuff takes away my conquering-time...)

so those that say they dont pause doesnt really pause at all even if they have to pee? absurd!

I pause almost every time. I think that the AI have an unfair advantage by managing to give orders to multiple units at the same time, while I can only give orders one unit at a time. I pause because I want it to represent the finished strategy that my general have given his troops. I think the battle gets more dynamic by pausing because the army is like an organic being and thus should act accordingly to all kinds of threats and not just stand there waiting...

I pause a lot during battles and i dont really see how thats cheating, since if u try to look at it from the side of realism, shouting for a unit to move there or attack that doesnt really take long when youre the one shouting. When u only have a mouse in ur hand and a few buttons to select commands it becomes alot more difficult and time consuming. So yh, no cheating in my oppinion.

I pause when I have to give simultaneous commands to my troops, or when the enemy sallies out during a siege.

I pause to give orders that units would do themselves in real life. Now they just stand doing nothing And I do pause a lot in battles with mist. I can't see anything(and again in a real battle, units would act instead of standing still) while the AI doesn't have that problem.

No (unless someone calls me, but that like never happens), in real life you can't pause either.

In real life you have subordinates who can think for themselves instead of yelling "Our men are under attack! We must act!".
