Default Factions in MTW2 - Threads so far

Ok. This is for all of those who think we need another "Aztec" etc...thread. Please take a look at the faction specific threads that have already been posted here and only post in those already available for the factions mentioned. Do not start opening up threads on new factions unless you have some new piece of information not already delt with here.

If you need any "official information" review the stickied thread here:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...7&page=5&pp=20
It does also include a list of factions currently in the game!

I have assorted the threads in an alphabetical order

    (1) The I love/hate the Aztecs threads (or: the only pyramids I am interested in are egyptian!)

Nice idea Boudicca, though it makes me wonder why I didn't close the more recent aztec threads, we already had 3. I must be slipping...

Then there is the fact that we have well over ten thread dedicated to complaining about hte factions...

True, we have alot of hype without tons of info, people want to discuss and debate the game, I guess that is the easy one to deal with.

I belive we will have to wait and see! there is no motive to worry now, but there may be a lot of motive to complain later if CA dos not listen to the fans voice

I think that there should be more than three Muslim nations. The Turks (long live), the Egyptians and the Almohad Khalifate are effective but not enough. I think that Shia nations like Iran (can be converted to the Ilkhanate or the Khwarzm Empire) should join. That way, Islam will be divided into two (not diplomatically): the Sunnis and the Shia. Though it's not a way to win for me, the Christian players will be allowed to -now diplomatically- divide Islam and more excitement will be added. (though it's futile to mess with a Persian Shah or a Turkish Khan)

As for Islam's advantage, I think, like the Pope, the Almohad Khalifah should be able to order the Turkish, Arabic or Egyptian lords to form alliances, declare war upon the Catholics, create a Jihad and so on. That will make the game harder and more fun for the Sunnis and if you're loyal to the Khalifah (as in the 11th, 12th, 13th centuries) he'll promote you to the level of "Sultan" and you'll be able to order other local Muslim lords.

The low amount of Orthodox Empires shocked me. I think that there should be more Orthodox nations. Although they increased their numbers by adding the Serbian Empire (?-1456 (destroyed by Mehmed the Conqueror)), they should add more nations by reviving the Balkans. I mean by adding the Bulgarians and allowing the Human player to play as the Hungarians (two Hunnic nations... Is that too much to ask?). The Romanians were effective warriors but they couldn't form a network between their Counts and Dukes; therefore, they should be added but they shouldn't be playable.

It's beautiful game (as much I know) but it should have been better than this. Don't you agree?

You mean Turkish Sultan? Unless you're referring to the Seljuks. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

More on-topic, I think debating over adding and deleting factions right now is trivial. Wouldn't you all prefer a better UI and more intelligent AI? New factions and units can be modded in later. So it's not a big deal. Right?

The real thing would be a TW game with good sea battles and a really intelligent AI which knows, for example when to betray and when and how to use diplomacy

The invasion from beyond the Gaspian Sea of the marauding nomads of central Asia, with its attending savagery, compelled a large number of Armenians to move south, toward the Taurus ranges close to the Mediterranean Sea, where in 1080 they founded, under the leadership of a young prince, Ruben of the Bagratid Dynasty, the Kingdom of Cilicia or Lesser Armenia.

The Cilician Armenians came into still closer contact with the Western nations, fully realizing the spiritual and cultural affinities that bound them to their fellow Christians of Europe. Hence, their readiness to render signal assistance "in men, in horse, in arms, in food and in counsel" to the Crusaders, who from the eleventh to the thirteenth century were waging war against the Saracens for the conquest of Jerusalem and the Holy Sepulchre. Fate had yet another--almost fatal--setback in store for the Armenian people. During the third quarter of the fourteenth century, the Cilician kingdom found itself exposed to the fury of Egypt, a country which had converted to the faith of the Prophet Mohammed. With no help forthcoming from the Christians of the West, Armenia surrendered to the Mamelukes after a dogged, yet hopeless, resistance, and the year of grace 1375 saw the last of the kings of Armenia, Leon VI. The chivalrous monarch died at Calais, France, in 1393, and his remains were laid to rest at St. Denis, near Paris, among the kings of France. He had taken the road to the royal Courts of Europe to seek assistance for Armenia. His arrival in London coincided with the time when Richard II of England and Charles V of France were still engaged in what is known as the Hundred Years' War. The ardent desire of the Armenian king had been to see the differences between the two neighbors composed amicably because, in his words, "it is unbecoming of Christian kings to fight against one another."

Well, i don't know but is it going to be a total of 30 factions or not ????

Obivously they will not include everything on one map - that would be utter madness, and the map would be too huge - Europe would be way too small, which defeats the purpose of a medieval game. They will either have a seperate campaign for the Aztecs, or will have a whole map just for the Americas, and then of course the standard Medieval map.
Sorry dude, but i think ur wrong on this one. the whole idea of them having a seperate campaign for the aztecs sounds to me, not only ridiculous, but stupid. they could very easily just create like Aztec: Total War if thats what they were going to do. Plus, who said that everything has to be accurate? In RTW, you could play as britain, and go fight the parthians if u wanted 2. thatr never historically happened, but who cares? you could sail across the atlantic before it really happened in history, who cares? also, your arrgument about he map makes no sense at all either. You should know that youy cant make judgements about the campaign map before neough info is released-i think we all figured that out when RTW came out, andthe campaignmap was bigger. Who says the map would be too big? not me. i just look at it as more land to conquer. the whole point of totla war games (because of what ive seen and played) is to conquer everything, regardless of what really happened. Change history. I think if you or anybody has an argument over realisticness of totalwar games, then you should load up one of your saved games, and look at the land you've taken as rome. Ask yourself, did rome ever really take those lands? probably not. and how do you figure that europe would be too small? wat if CA remade the entire campaign and mini map to suit the needs of the new game and era? thats like playing medival total war 1 before RTW came out, and saying, the campaign map graphics cant possibly get any better because it wouldnt work. Well, suprise, were now playing on a 3D map n its a hell of a lot better. so before you go saying this is imposible, and that wont work, think about what happened with previous total war games.

Maybe the Republic of the seven provinces of the Netherlands will emerge if herecy or protestantism becomes over a certain amount of percents. This happened in 1480 and can be a great turn of event in western europe.
