    Default Trade

I'm getting a little confused with how the trade feature works. Right now I'm playing with Chosokabe, and I have like 5-6 different resources to trade with. Some clans are explicitly looking to import what I have to sell. They're not hostile or anything, they're indifferent.

However, when I try to form a trade agreement they say I have nothing they want! Damnit GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!

What's the deal? Is it buggy, or do I need more of the amount or something?

Depends, did you bull-rushed thru some factions and others are pretty pissed off of your territorial expansion?
Sometimes bribing while bargaining helps, but I checked/played chosokabe too (besides being a boring faction *g*) and I ended up very early that most clans just don't like my ambition to expand my territories.

(if you enter negotiations, there is the likelihood of your success above..this helps to determine if your demand will be successful or not. 'Moderate' == failure.)

Usually on the diplomatic screen while selecting your clan, you get a clue what others think of you. Typically white/neutral color up to green is an easy success.

So if you have already 5-6 resources, you had either placed your fleets right or are these 'natural' resources from some some zones as well?
Oh, and using your Daimyo for being the main-general nets you some extra honour and so does the chi-research.
This helps a lot to nullify the greed

Don't know if it helps, but I never checked 'normal' difficulty and even the pretended 'harder' faction gets easier trade agreements than the stupid 'chosokabe'....

    U
From my own experience, when my offer showed as Moderate, and I made a proposal, they in 99% cases came back with a counterproposal with a slight higher money demand or something else....thus letting me know what I need to do to make them agree....

e,g. I offered 5000koku for a trade, military alliance.....they came back with wanting 7500....I returned with asking for the daughter for my son...and they asked for a bit less and agreed

I too found with the Chosokabe it was very difficult to trade. However as the Takeda I have less trouble

Yeah I have just about every trade resource available except for the pot one. None are hostile, and some need multiple resources that I have. They even export the one thing I don't have (so that the trade works both ways) but still they refuse.
Seriously starting to think it's bugged. Or is it that I don't actually have the resources in supply? When you construct buildings such as Lumbermill you actually get a few tonnes of lumber. Can you run out of these resources or?

Facing same thing as chosokabe. It's really annoying.

Maybe your getting too much money for the deal because of your resources and they have no resources to take advantage of? They might not want to give you 400 per turn for 100/turn to them. Try giving them money when doing the deal.

I had to bribe even the *minor* clans to trade with me, even though they had everything to gain. I image a very proud AI daimyo refusing to trade unless he comes out ahead

I think it's ridiculous - we both benefit from this, why don't you want to do this?!?! I was really happy that in NTW pretty much everybody wanted to trade, even slightly unfriendly factions - it doesn't make any sense for them to refuse trading even after being offered payments of thousands.

    Broken? I think so.

Sigh. again, if they're indifferent and you get more money from the trade than you and if other clans hate you as well they don't like to trade. Also if they don't have resources, they don't want to trade with you because they don't get as much money from it than you do. I'm having no trouble making trading partners as Tokugawa on Hard when pretty much everyone likes me except Hattori and Hojo.
I for one like the change that nobody autotrades with you before they first take account who they are really supporting and who gains what in this deal and do they want to stay at peace with this clan or not.

This I can understand, and I agree. However, they keep saying I have nothing that they could possibly want. CA should add another response, such as "This trade would not be lucrative enough for us" or something.

Here's the exploit I discovered since ETW: before proposing a trade treaty, move all your trade ships out of the trade spots. That way the AI thinks he can profit more and is more eager to sign, I've even squeezed money out of them. Then after signing just park your ships back and bam you got your disgusting income.

Oh I didn't know they factored stuff like that in. I'm gonna try that right now actually ! I've been missing out on about 2k gold per turn, and thats with 3 separate factions!

EDIT: Tried it, but it didn't change a thing. Do I have to wait a turn after removing the ships?
Maybe it's because of the attention my clan is getting from the Shogunate? I admit it would get ridiculously easy if they actually trade with me but I should still have the option to.

No, the effect should be instant, move the ships and the AI instantly knows you won't profit as much.

I'm at Normal, and I could usually get trade by that way with most factions including unfriendly ones, but the hostiles usually don't give a flying F.

I'll give that a try too. That might be what was giving me trouble previously.

I hope that'll be something CA can do in the future, expand the trade opportunity so you can negotiate how the trade works instead of just "trade or no trade".

I also think that it matters with your honor. When I lost my capitol and retook it, all my trade had been cut off. I couldn't reestablish any old trade agreements since I only had 2 honor. Spent a few turns and battles to up the Art of (whatever gives the honor) and level my leader to get the +2 honor/-20% looting trait. After that, with 5 honor and offering some money I could start trading again.

what about when it says all trade routes at full capacity? As Chosokabe I have no trade because they are all full up. Most of them are indifferent.

I have yet to even get a trade ship. I have exposed one trade node north of Date.

I think even untraded resources will generate some income per turn.

That is correct. At one time I made almost the same amount of money from unsold trade goods then of real trade. Just fill up the nodes and enjoy the money.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

What is the max amount of trade ships to put on a node that benefits you before upkeep makes it pointless?
