Default Is this supposed to happen?

So to keep this understandable i will leave out most of the other details of the battle. So this is what happened i had 1 Yari Samaria vs 2 Yari Samuri and so what i did is i took 2 of my Yari Cavalry and charged them in the back of my enemy's Yari Samaria and i did hammer and anvil tactics but my cavalry ended up routing and my Yari Samaria lost which doesn't seem right in Medieval 2 if you were to charge cavalry in the back of spearmen the spearmen would lose but i'm getting this feeling in this game that there is no bonus to charging a unit in the back and i don't know if it has to do with the rock paper scissors style of the game but i think it should be fixed.

Bold really helps making your point.

Did you know what kind of vet the Yari's had? Even the basic Samurai have high enough morale to stand a charge some of the times, which only gets bigger with vet and even a small number can decimate cavalry fast due to the 30 vs cavalry. And after the initial charge yari cavalry will do close to zero damage to just about everything. If you had pulled back and recharged, you would have won no probs.

Also there is the general skill to consider and abilites of certain units.

There is a massive bonus to charging them from the back. I have yet to see one instance where charging them from the back does NOT cause a mass rout. This was probably just a glitch

Nope, charging spearmen in the back is generally not recommendable in Shogun 2. I tried charging a solid spearwall of Yari Ashigaru from the back with light cavalry, they absolutely destroyed them before I could even pull them back.

cavalry in S2:TW arent made to hold the fight. There main use is to break it up in your favor hit a run tactics.

His army layout was 6 Bow Ashigaru, 2 Katana Samuri, 2 No-Dachi Samuri, And a spam of Yari Ashigaru and Yari Samuria but none of his Melee were Vets I did do Hammer and Anvil so i did pull them back and i'm not trying to do a "rant" but just want to know if this happened to anyone else so i can reassure what i'm seeing is true or if it was a glitch or i messed up some where.

ya I have had nothing but bad luck with cavalry to the point I don't even train them. However I think sometimes you just hit bad luck! It has happen to me where I'm just on winning spree then I get that one battle that just got to crap and I loose when I know I should have won.

however no worries give time and mods will come out to fix the annoyances.

Nah it;s just the way it is.

id you had pulled back your yari cavalry and simply tried again, ythey would have broken on the second or third go.

Yari/light cavalry have no staying power. everything other than their charge value sucks ass.

Yes its bad. 2 units of yari cavalry wont defeat one unit of yari samurai if one charges it from the rear and other then once theyre stopped even if repeatedly pulled back. Its also frustrating to see spear cavalry charge being stopped by charging spear infantry with infantry losing 15 men for 40 horses. Theyve really overdone it with all the spear anticavalry nonsence. Sword armed infantry would have the same problems getting into spearwall than cavalry if not bigger. RTW and M2 got it right this is a great failure.

Btw have anyone got a problem with pulling cavalry back for another charge? I dont mind losing like 5 or so men out of 80 in the process if I dont pull them back immediatly anyway losing third of a unit isnt as much fun. Problem there is most of the casualties are away from combat. Like if they got heart attack suddenly men count drops by 10-20 in a second. Have anyone experienced this as well?
