    Default Various Questions...6.4

First off, I have to say that I am LOVING this mod. A few things though...

    1. I played my first SS campaign as Lithuania because I liked that they started with only 1 city and had lots of interesting units. My only complaint about them was the speeches. Personally I greatly enjoy the prebattle speech but all my Generals would do is give a one liner insult. Do they even have the capability to give longer/more interesting speeches?

    2. I've noticed that my Generals don't seem to be gaining traits/command stars as much. Does the mod just lower the chance of getting traits/stars? Or am I doing something wrong? (Using Lithuania as my example, I fought about a dozen battles, mostly with small Novgorodian armies that I greatly outnumbered.)

    3. Does the Army Strength (the red/blue bar with the odds) actually control anything? Like how likely you are to get traits/ancillaries/stars after the battle? Or is it simply there to let you see your chances?

Also, what all factors into that? I assume Health, Attack and Armor of each unit but are there other factors involved?

1.Nobody wrote speeches for them I think.
2."mostly with small Novgorodian armies that I greatly outnumbered" Thats your problem, you'll get nothing like that, fight outnumbered to gain command stars.
    3.Only visual.

    1. I guess they weren't imported or were never written.

    2. Depending on submods you enabled the chance to gain command stars and traits might be much lower on top of the fact even in vanilla fighting battles where you outnumber the enemy is rarely rewarded. You need to face at least even odds or greater to really have good chance to gain good traits.

    3. The army strength bars in the battle or the odds before battle is joined?
The in battle bar just shows who currently has the advantage and can be fun to watch if you start out way outnumbered with only a tiny sliver of the bar in your favor and thru the battle your slice grows to the whole bar.

Prebattle odds are what the game assigns you based on your army composition and generals traits compared to enemy. It is not based just on numbers of men- I think it uses the auto-calc formula but either way if you have a large army of militia vs an enemy with a good general and lots of heavy cavalry despite you having larger numbers you might have lower odds and can still win a heroic victory. The other works as well... if you have same number of units as enemy but all yours are HA vs enemy who has mostly cavalry the odds might give you better or worse odds depending how many of the enemy are infantry, cavalry, etc. Of course with a good HA army the battle can still be quite easy so the odds displayed aren't totally accurate. I've had battles I felt were really tough at 2-5 odds and really easy battles at 1-5 odds but generally if the odds are more than 1-1 in your favor the battle should be really easy. Occasionally if there is a large enemy army full of good heavy cavalry and high xp infantry you need to take an equally good army with you to have much chance and the odds might show 1-1 or nearly that and the battle is still tough but the AI rarely every assembles such a strong army. It happens only a few times in a whole campaign.

So just to be sure I've got this right: If I want the best chance of my Generals getting traits/ancillaries/command stars then I need to fight when outnumbered, and the odds before battle is joined has no effect on anything...Correct?

The odds are more accurate reflection of what the game considers your chances of victory are then simply the numbers.

I honestly don't know if the traits calculations come from simply outnumbered or the odds but Heroic victories do come from the odds and not simply being outnumbered so it would make sense traits do as well though for certain traits other factors come into play than simply defeating an enemy army when the odds are against you.
