Before I'll play a lot of turns and decide I actually don't like it, what's your opinion about BGRIV?
Don't know whether to give it a try it or not.

Just read the instruction manual. If you can't get through it then you wont like it.

Not necessarily true. I only read a few paragraphs before I started playing as it was simply to much info to absorb from reading in a single sitting. I figured learn by doing... it took awhile and still only lately learned a couple features I probably should have known earlier but also I've played thru at least 2-3 versions now so that could explain not knowing some of the features either as I did not often go back and read the entire manual of the newer versions. Just spot checked a couple things I wanted to know specifically about.
I'd recommend learning by doing if you don't like reading instruction manuals. I used to enjoy the manuals as much as the game but now I usually never bother.

I fear that it may not work too well with the Cumans: they have a very spread-out territory which means that many units might need to be sent without a general, and a general on the far corner of the territory might need to recruit professional armies.
My main issue with it is the Faction Zeal and limited recruitment due to general's abilities, if I could have it without those I'd use it.
BGRII ftw. Just realistic enough to feel like you're overcoming some kind of challenge, but not enough to get lost.Try BGR II or III instead then.
How could you use BGR III ? I'd be a little more interested in that one, I've tried BGR IV so many times, I just get despondent, or bored or both, usually bored, I already hate how slow most things are then to make it like a turtle with four broken legs going uphill backwards is no longer playing a game, but a chore. I can appreciate all the work that went into it, if I could donate $, I would to the modders here, but well, I can't. Anyhow, it's not for me and the strict limits don't encourage fun in my meager opinion.
Yes, listen to Liandro. It requires a certain type of personality to enjoy the level of detail & difficulty, others will find it boring. Those who like it often can't play without it because they find easy & simple boring. Know yourself.
For the next version I've cut out a little of the complexity, but massively increased the difficulty. However, difficulty by its very nature increases complexity. For example in an easy game you can ignore most M2TW game mechanics. Money comes easily so you don't need to worry about managing the economy, battles are won easily so you don't need to develop tactics or worry about army composition, troops are so abundant as to be throwaway so you don't need to concern yourself with unit availability. Increase the difficulty and then you will need to understand and play these mechanics in fine detail.

I mean absolutely no disrespect, BYG, I just wish I could get into it more. Really had there been no need to work, come home, do chores, feed kids, get up and take them to school, and repeat until Saturday, I could easily imagine using your mod, but in a time constrained life... I can find no time for your most recent mod which demands so much. As I said however, I do appreciate your work and do use BYG II, IV, however, is still a bit too demanding and when I want fast and easily satisfying, SS 6.4 with few things ticked does it for me.
Well there is always a diversity of opinions so luckily BYG has left BGR II and III out there for people who don't want all the newer features.

Indeed - I see a lot of people (including myself) post in various threads how much they still enjoy BGR II. What Grim gave us has done wonders for the mod.
How could you use BGR III with SS 6.4?
You can adapt BGRIII to SS6.4 (there is an autoinstaller) but I dont advise it without some modding experience (to prevent mistakes). Also I'm not entirely up on how the 6.4 installer works so for all I know it would overwrite your changes when you start a new campaign so if you go down that route get advice.
Otherwise best to use II first then jump to IV_E.
SS gets updated too often for me to keep making all BGR versions for it.
