Lets play STW2

Hi guys,

I am trying to do a "lets play" session with Shogun 2 and figured this would be the right place to post it.

I am going to be narrating a whole campaign (provided there is interest) and giving my thoughts about it as i go along.

I am doing it in a live format, so i wont be editing my voice over in after the fact, this means i will run into problems but hopefully it means that it should be more fluid and entertaining (what with my random swearing and random drop backs into Scots rather than English).

I am looking for any advice or opinions to help improve the format, as well as taking requests for other games if there proves to be a demand for them.

This is my first time doing something like this so its going to be a very rough and ready style until i get used to narrating my play time on the fly.

Anyhow with all that out of the way here is Part 1, please forgive the Scottish accent and the occasional descent into Scots slang.

I have already taken some tips to include more humour and generally talk a bit more about my tactics during the battles and why i make the choices i do during the game.

I this proves popular i will keep making videos like this as i am quite enjoying STW2 regardless and doing this sort of lets play really adds a whole other lever of motivation to playing the game.

*Most settings are on high, but things like shadows and AA are off because my computer dies down to single figure fps when trying to record the footage and play with those enabled at the same time*

Edit: Slight problem encountered with the process, turns out that any large battle with fraps running at the original settings turns into a mess in short order despite my rig being able to play record bad company 2 with full settings at a constant 60fps.

So I am going to have to restart the LP with reduced unit sizes... gives me a chance to make a better intro ep too.

Wowh, nobody giving you a reply....Gotta sort that out.

I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed the full 12 and a half minutes of it! And you seem to be enjoying it too, which makes the whole video more fluent and enjoyable.
It's a great source of information for guys that have yet to get the game and play it (like me...).
The accent is great, same goes for the humour.

Honestly can't wait for the next one to arrive!

I ran into some problems with that setup (in short Fraps kills my FPS while recording) so i tweaked my settings and have restarted the whole thing with a better emphasis on explaining my actions and thoughts (as well as a spiffy intro!)



I intend to cover most things in the game, but there will be times when i skip several turns at a time (during long periods of peace/buildup etc.) just to save me from making dozens of 15 minute videos with very little worth watching per video.

I have shot and uploaded parts 2 and 3, I think i am happy with the new setup and i enjoyed shooting the half hour of new footage.

First of all, sorry that I'm posting again, but this thread deserves it.
(I don't get it, why don't more people post on this thread?)

Anyway, your newest videos are as enjoyable as (if not more than) the first.
Was just wondering if you're going to continue,
you shouldn't let the lack of comments put you off of the creation of more!

I'm eagerly awaiting the next video(s)!

Watched the first video, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's one thing to watch a CA preview/overview, but you'll (understandably) only get the positive aspects with them. When you watch a fan-vid, you'll get a brutally honest set of answers. After watching this, I'm convinced that I should put aside a few bucks and pick up Shogun 2 sometime soon!

Btw if you want to train your generals faster you can exclude excess generals and have them assist the main army as a stack of their own. That way, if you win, every general will recieve XP for the victory.

Although I´m deciding whether or not I approve of this method. To be fair though, I´ve lost my fair share of lonesome generals to ambushing armies when I did it.

I´m not sure whether or not it was wise to disband so many ashigaru for samurai just yet, although I too made use of that sword dojo when I was playing Date (on hard though, not VH) and got me 2 units of katanas fairly early.
I´m definetly eager to see how sacrificing quantity for quality turns out here.

First of all, cheers to everyone who watched and of course those who got me to the front page.

Things have been a bit slow recently as i have been ill with gallstones (resulting in a hospital stay) and i am due to have an MRI and surgery to remove my gallbladder very soon.

With that in mind i am going to try and continue at least some work on the LP, in between attacks, hospital stays and complications from the pain meds (that mean i have lost 8lbs in 1 week).

Damn that really sucks. My ant almost lost her life because of those! I really hope you will be feeling okay soon.
