The pictures are so small and lacking in detail it's hard to tell what, if anything, was changed?

Just changed the texture (nothing else) on the units, which make them more realistic (dirty and gritty)... I will upload a dds file to see them better in the game.

    Here, more 2 pics:

Well.. i feel they should have a worn look on campaign.
They did clean and repair their weapons and armour when returning.
But it does add the since of realism that we want. I still feel our Greeks, and Spartans could use a touch. Not dents or large gashes but a worn battle look.
Maybe the newer units in the late period would have less because of less battles.

I must admit, some of those units in Hic Est Lacedaemon
Are impressive making their shields rustic

I'm not saying our shields and armour doesn't have that worn look. But a little tweaking could help.

So. You opened Polybian Cohorts texture, added a filter or two in photoshop. I don't want to sound harsh, but I see this work to be a regress compared to the original.

Next time try doing a manual improvement instead of photoshop filters It looks better, and it is more creative. It helps you to develop your skills.

I prefer the original textures, I don't want my units to look gloomy I want them to be well dressed for their funeral.

Doesn't do it for me....mainly looks like some sharpening tool used.

No parade units are more pleasing for the eye, its enought that M2TW units look like bums, no need to lower the class of RSII units as well.
