Icon6 Time to enter the Army...

Well, as the title says, I have decided to enter the Esercito Italiano (Italian Army) as a volunteer. Levy has been suspended some years ago, and now the Army relies only upon volunteers who have got to pass quite strict selections, both physical and psychic. Typically, every 4 people that request to be recruited, only 1 manages to finally pass selections and enter the Army; I am one of those lucky 1s out of 4s, and some great opportunities present to me. I took this decision back in October, but only these last days I finally managed to know I accomplished that.

Being a soldier has always been my dream. Three years ago I decided to put that dream momentarily aside, focusing on university. That was a big mistake, and only now I have realized that. To rot in an office overwhelmed by papers has never been my intention at all.. but somehow, at that time I thought it wasn’t that bad afterall. Never put your will aside and replace it with things you are not convinced of, NEVER!

A year in the E.I. allows to become a professional soldier, a fire fighter, a policemen, a Carabineer,... It opens a lot of doors, each one with an interesting path to follow. This does not mean I am born for war, that I am a warlike fanatic. Serving your Nation is much more than that.

Now you might wonder…why am I telling you all this? It’s simple: Because I spent almost 6 years here in TWC (4 as registered user, 2 as guest). Modding RTW and playing other TW games became a passion. I am proud of having joined the Diadochi Total War team more than two years ago, a team which unfortunately now vanished, with only RedFox remaining with his little time to dedicate to this wonderful work. I put a lot of hours of hard work in this, even with my limited knowledges, and I always tried to make my best to contribute to what I consider being the best RTW mod. I hope it was worth it, but by seeing a lot of people coming here and saying it’s a good mod even if hasn’t received updates and fixes in some months, I can think it was definitely worth it. I won’t lie, I have spent more time modding Diadochi rather than playing it; because modding became even more fun than playing!

What does this all mean? That, at least for 4 months, I will be almost completely absent from here. Boot Camp lasts two months, plus another two for Combat Training. I surely won’t have the time nor the chance to access my laptop. After those 4 months, when I will be out of training and in actual service, I might come back sometimes but there’s nothing sure.

I will leave for Boot Camp on the 22nd March. I was obliged to at least inform you of this, because some other members of the DTW team disappeared without saying a word and I didn’t want to act like that. As I said, reading your generally positive feedback on the mod has always been a great satisfaction, and I truly thank you all for that. A special thanks goes to RedFox, who allowed me to contribute to this mod.

It's great to hear that you've found something you're passionate about in life. Not many have that chance.
Your help with DTW has been great, too - it helped us get quite a few releases out, which I wouldn't have been released with my lack of time and all.

Hopefully though, the final patch / version will be released sometime in the future. Even if you're not here to play it with us, your hard work still lives on.

Good luck mate, you're a reliable and honest teammate - something that makes you more than welcome anywhere you go. I'll definitely miss having you around these forums.

    1) Don't go, this will stop the progress in making DTW even better
2)You should go, always follow your dreams.

Hello guys! I am back for Easter festivities...

Life in the Army is tough, but I am enjoying, it makes you feel alive! A lot of people gave up for lack of motivations, psychic breakdown, we who resisted the initial decimation now have earned the respect of our instructors and are becoming, slowly, soldiers.

Volunteers get pretty big guns in Italy. My cousin in Belgium just got a pistol!!!

Anyway, good luck and I'm glad you're doing good.

    BTW, where's your Lorica Segmentata?

Well, "big guns"...it's just an assault rifle, a Beretta Ar70\90. But I'd change it with a good pistol any day.
With lorica segmentata you mean body armour? We will receive it during advanced combat training, what I'm doing now is just basic boot camp.

    This is a lorica segmentata:

And it was just a joke.

Ummm, just a beretta, anything that kills more than ten people in a minute is a big gun for me. BTW, do you have real bullets on you?

Don't worry, I know what a lorica is...it was the first modular body armour, and modern kevlar armours use the same principles of modularity. In a way, we might even call modern armours loricas segmentata!

For now we use only fake bullets. A lot of people still have to figure where the trigger is...

I catch the chance to thank you all, and to announce I have finally ended boot camp. I have been assigned to the 3rd Mountain Artillery Regiment, which is part of the glorious Alpine Brigade Julia. Now I will start advanced training...this is just the beginning!
