A Few Questions on History
My first question is concerning Mnai. I can only assume that EB is using the Ptolemaic standard of Talent -> Mna -> Drachm -> Obol, so would that equate 1 Mnai to about half a kilogram of gold or bimetal alloy?
Second is a primary document question. I've just cracked the surface of De Re Militari by Vegetius and he refers to two line troops I've not seen mentioned before. Namely, antefignani, which he described as "heavy-armed" along with the Big Three, and the Ferentarii, which he classified as "lightarmed" along with ranged troops. I'm leaning towards Ferentarii being a different name for Velites, but I'm not positive. As for Antefignani, I'm clueless.
