Its so hard !

hi all, i was never really good at total war but i have all the games sept shogun 1 and shogun 2, so playing this great mod atm but i find it so hard !

im playing orcs of gundabad as i liek the thought of evil taking over and i control them so thought yeah cool and there kinda closed on at the top, so thought this was a good choice.

im on turn roughly 60 odd 100k in the bank, just sitting there not annoying anyone when dwarves attack gunabad and keep trying to take it so i send over an army to take it back once they take it. (damn there hard)

i have mostly towns but gunabad is a town and i have my castle were i make my armys from so i put together a huge force trolls ect and on the way to take gundabad the free people of whatever there called come out of nowere with about 4/5 armys and attack all my citys and leave me with nothing i just got back my castle intime before they wiped me out but destroyed all my buildings to make my good army.

so any tips or suggestions what am i doing wrong? its so hard to travel as everything is far away and i couldnt seem to get diplomats or anything.

also im playing on easy dont laugh haha

Gundabad really isn't the best faction to start out with as they're fairly weak and a kind of a "side faction". If you want to play an orc faction better to start with Mordor or Isegards.

Well your first game should definitely not be with an Orcish faction - they are notoriously hard. Try one of the elves, or if you want to be on the evil side - try Harrad for getting to know the game. Orcs are not hard just for the fact that they have small economy and weak troops in the beginning, but also that they are in the middle, with four possible factions attacking them (Eriador, Dwarves, High Elves, Silvan Elves). One of the trickiest part of the game , at least for me, is to defened your borders when your invasion army is away. Having a small border patrol made of cheap units and a few family members is something you definitely need to have.

thanks for the tips, yeh dwarves started attacking me then the free people eriador or something... so which is good to start of with? im definitley liking evil as i like the thought of a big horde ect

also gotta admit, i LOVE trolls i sent like 2 troll units in and they just wrecked the place but at one stage there was a load of pike guys they just took them down easy enough heh

Still, i'd suggest you try to play on vh/vh starting with harad or high elves which are relatively easier compared to other evil/good factions.

if you try vh/vh, you may suffer a bit at the beginning however you will get way better in no time on the other hand playing on easy will most likely prevent you from getting better.

Meh I wouldn't suggest very hard if you already having trouble on easy/normal. Besides, you can get better, the AI in battle doesnt attack different or something, you can still use and improve your tactics (flank, anvil+hammer as standard) on easy/normal. Its just the bonussus (morale and hitpoints i think) that would make it unnessecary hard for players.

I was just about to post that.

Just play it like any other M2 game/mod. Start by building up your economy. Get roads, farms, markets, trade agreements, you know the drill. As Harad you're pretty safe because Gondor is busy with Mordor.

If you don't provoke Gondor into attacking you you'll have plenty of time to build up.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing an Evil faction, however, if you're looking to get better, the High Elves are excellent. I might also recommend Eriador.

dont worry, The dwarves in my opinion are broken as all hell

not that they are invincible, but there are few things that can actually defeat dwarves, iv seen a two miner unit defeat a free peoples general with 5 spear militia and several archers and cav.

well atm iv gone round and built roads farms town hall ect all that kinda things shrines.

in my outer citys/castles im gonna put in things like buildings to make arms no point having armies in the back were they wont be used, so as i expand ill just destroy the buildings i dont need right?

I think the dwarfs have really overpowered units, so they should be a good choice, BUT they have 2 centers of empires far away from each other, so it can be tricky.

I think either High Elves or Eriador is the easiest good faction.


On the evil side Harad or Rhún: both are safe from everyone, with reasonable empires, and can make good money. (Harad from sea trade, Rhún from mining)

I would recommend the Silvan elves. Focus on absorbing the rebel territory within Mirkwood, then just sit back and build up. If you fight all your battles, making sure to keep you archers alive you should do fine. A cautionary note! don't attack the enemies main settlements unless you have a scoocum army, even if there is no garrison in the settlement. There is garrison script that automatically gives them a large army to defend the settlement (as im sure you have run into already) and if you loose that battle, they will send that army into your lands to rape and pillage! Also, be aware of wargs as they annialate your archers! and above all have fun!
