you need to watch what you build. every level of a castle consumes an additional food. the upgraded versions of markets also consume food.

You may not upgrade every single castle without thinking anymore. You need to choose where you want to develop now. To be honest with -7 food it will be difficult now. You may destroy some markets (castles are undestroyable) and conquer some “high-farm low-castle” provinces and quickly develop farms there.

It seems best not to even consider building past markets and fortresses - except a castle or two perhaps - until all provinces have Land Consolidation. Start upgrading to rice exchanges and maybe beyond once the 'Time of Plenty'(?) event occurs, although by then you probably won't need the money anyway'

    Hi . Got a question , example province food supply = 0
    Global food supply = +2
Now a want to build something that consumes 1 food . Will that 1 food be deducted from the global food supply or will I end up with province food supply = -1 and thus have a rebellion at hand?
BTW: Like that system . Now you gotta think first .

Your global food supply is your aggregate supply. ie All the castles and markets in your provinces (minuses) deducted from the total farms (pluses). So if you had 2 castles consuming 2 food each, and you had 2 farms producing 3 food each, you global supply is +2

So if you buiild something that consumes 1 food, then both you province and global supply will go down by 1,

You can have a negative food supply in a province and still avoid rebellion. As long as your global food supply is not negative

You need to be really carefully with upgrades in this game. You might have the money to do everything, but it's not always the best thing to do.

Leave a couple of backwoods provinces with dinky castles, make sure that you research all the farming upgrade arts, and then improve your agriculture. Even if a province doesn't make a lot of money from farm taxes, it still grows food units to pay food upkeep for castles and markets.

I don't see "consumes food x" on markets..? Are you sure they really consume extra food?
Catch you on the flip side.

Yeah, the vast majority of my castles are level one. I had an experience with a -4 food rebellion that cost me 3 province that convinced me of the wisdom. I'm playing as Uesegi on hard so I don't have the money to upgrade them anyway.

Be very careful with the food, it will loose you your campaign fast.

As said, you cannot keep maxing out every castle. You NEED to have some castles at a very basic level of development and you need to see your food supply before you upgrade your castles.

Essentially you can think of it as having a couple of large strategic fortresses that defend your territories and pump out units, while the rest of the provinces should be used for economic concerns and food production
