    Default Goth Migration Question

    Greetings,

If I play things through on this mod, will it ultimately get me to the Gothic migration of the mid-late 370s and the war with the Goths?

Yes, as the romans you will be immediately at war with the goths, or you can play as the goths themselves. They have a good, powerful starting position, can become a horde faction, but are under some threat by the huns. Whatever the case, they will be moving into roman territory with many full-stacked armies. Plunder and pillage as the either of the 2 gothic factions themselves, or play as the romans and brace yourself!

Part of the Mod allows you to either be Valentinian I or his brother Valens. Valens twice invaded Gothic territory in the 360's AD and also had to contend with the usurper Procopius who hired Gothic mercenaries. I'm not sure if the Mod continues to the dramatic events from 376AD onwards.

I am somewhere around 378AD in my Procopius campaign and I earned the Gothic Foedus some years ago and availed myself of a huge stack of Gothic foederates. The various Gothic hordes have rampaged across the Danube several times - one getting as far as Greece itself - but luckily I have two very strong commanders in the Thracian area who have managed to push them back and also raid and pillage the nearer Gothic settlements.

I am at 378 in my Constantius campaign, no Gothic foedus as yet! The Balkans is actually quite stable, Lazyges anihilated, both Goths have been punished! But thats not my issue its usurpers in Africa and the Berbers. Oh and trying to retake Gaul and Spain .Not to mention Persia !

I'm a few turns into things and it appears that it is going to be the most difficult mod I've played... I'm on campaign- very hard, battle hard.

I crushed an Alamanni force just east of the Rhine, suffering minimal losses, then I lost a fort along the Danube to an overwhelming Quadi assault, then I destroyed two Alamanni forces, killing their king in the process but losing 60% of my force as well, then the game crashed and I have to revert to a point that I believe is just before the battle with the Alamanni king. Although I may be wrong since I cannot seem find to the Alamanni king at my revert point and my force near the battlefield/city is severely depleted, leading me to believe my revert point is AFTER the Alamanni king's death...

At any rate, this mod looks as though it will prove quite challenging. It seems there will be plenty of opportunities for bouncing back and forth from one crisis to another, along with the prospect of civil wars. Just what I'm looking for... After finishing my RR 410 narrative/AAR I may have to do a 360s-370s report.

The Goths have already proven to be such a threat along the Danube that I've had no choice but to form a "Field Army" (if you want to call it that) to defend Thrace and the wider region...

I've been in five battles so far, with 3 wins and 2 losses... Compared with about 200+ battles in the RR 410 mod with around 20-25 defeats.

It seems the Julian mod is going to be more challenging and that I don't have the luxury of avoiding battles that I don't want to be in.

I'm going to rotate between the 410 RR mod and my AAR for it, and playing the Julian mod for a while, see how things go...

To be honest I'm not sure, his Imperium still has 2 provinces left! But the Franks are very strong, as are thw Alamanni. My backs against the wall fighting Usurpers and Persia too. But I will prevail

Sounds like allot of fun. Incidentally, I personally never completely annihilate any factions, just enslave, burn and ravage their territory. So they are no threat for several years

I launched a "punitive expedition" east of the Rhine and sacked one of their cities, destroying all buildings in the settlement that could be destroyed (really helped boost my cash flow that turn), and I plan to do that with two or three more cities. Then I'm going to withdraw back across the Rhine.
