They're excellent. The animations and especially the sound of the sword battles is spot on.

i loved it the first time i saw a bow ashigaru and katana samuri eye each other up. They both held their blades up, the samura chopped with a tiny movement, the ashigary froze then dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes!

The arrow deaths are good as well - they don't immediately die. One guy crawled along for at least ten seconds, probably more, while he appeared to be pulling at the arrow that had pierced him!

ya I loving watching the long dying animations with the arrows sticking out of the men .
As for the duels they are superb to bad units rout so fast you don't have time to watch them
sometimes ill put a few units in custom battle at max upgrades just to watch the duels

Yes, when hit by an arrow, the death animation often corresponds to where the arrow hit. Great feature, and so are the wounded animations.

Did you try the first person mode following the guy before he does the death strike?

They look good, but it's weird how sometimes two guys will be dueling and then they break off to fight other people.

I had some katana samurai charge some other katana samurai and i saw one guy run at another guy and as he was running he swung his blade and killed him, it looked epic.

I also had a long fight between some yari samurai and some katana samurai and the katana samurai routed and left behind a couple of guys and i just caught an image of the yari samurai shove his blade through the other guys face who became stuck to his blade and he shook him off haha... amazing.

I'm glad CA seems to listen to the community... the longer death animations with arrows sitcking out of them is a nice touch... i like scanning a battle field after battle and seeing some troops crawling about in agony... it adds life...

also the duels are nice... cool touch if you hadn't noticed when two are dueling if another comes from behind they sometimes sneak attack and kill the enemy... which is nice... not locked into over long fight animations (ETW/NTW)

I loved seeing my Shimazu Katana hero doing a combat roll to avoid a sword strike then punching the poor ashigaru in face before slicing him in the neck...

wow reading my post I think I may need couselling.... :O

BTW I wish they brought back the wounded units... so if I had a unit of 100 troops and 40 were taken out in battle... maybe 15 or so are ok (wounded) and come back... more realistic imo as not every soldier dies... also adds another element... a general with a good doctor can minimize casualties...

Well I think that actually happens in most of the total war games :/ That is if you have around 1000 casualties in a battle, then you only lost about 800 on the campaign map if you know what I mean

I don't really ever get to watch them much because the movement and battle itself is generally too fast in speed, by the time I have finished all my maneuvers and charges the battle is usually over and the enemy begins running away, lol. Waiting for a mod to slow everything down and have longer battles, then I will enjoy it.

switch it to 50% speed to check it out... it's pretty epic... I usually when charging my No Dachi Date Samurai Slow it down to watch the epic hack fest for a few mins...

I do agree the vanilla speed is a little to fast... I offset that with edited larger unit size(Between 1.5 and 2 camp multi) and a small speed tweak... it's perfect for me now

probably hidden numbers... older games had a column that showed you... good to know... I had assumed as such since I never really counted all the dead bodies hehe
