Default Which faction would be more fun?

    Hi everyone!

The other day I decided I wanted to start playing SS again! I'm currently debating which faction to play, (6.1) Ireland or the Knight's Templar. I LOVE Ireland and am Irish of course (Happy St. Patty's day as well!) but I often find myself stuck on what to do after I fortify my little island. Then the Knight's Templar, well I've always been fascinated with the crusades! Also I've played European campaigns for so long, I'm looking for a change. I just can't decide! I wish I could combine the two! Which do you think would be more fun?

Also, exactly how hard is VH(campaign)? I like a really good challenge, but I don't want to be totally swamped by invasions and have no room to play.

    Thanks!

PS I started this Irish campaign a while ago and forgot what difficulty it was... haha. Is there any way I can see that?

Feed the Irish booze = their army will stand down. Take away their booze = you're in for an ass kicking. Learn these two rules, young Padawan, and you shall go far.

I've never played as Ireland so I'm gonna recommend play as the Knights Templar. Cool units, in the Holy Land, and plenty of battles what more could you ask for :p

Play as Ireland! I'd imagine the Irish to be rather fun! After the Island, take Wales, at which point you'll anger the Normans/British, depending on the time period, and get yourself a fun little war goin'. Following this, you might want to make war on Scotland, perhaps in the name of claiming the home of St. Patrick, who was in fact either Scottish or Roman.

If you mean you don't know what to do after capturing the British Isles - I'd suggest two possible paths:

-Become a warrior of the Church and lead a crusade to Jerusalem, Damietta, Antioch, whatever.
-Become a northern warlord and bring war upon the northmen that had terrorized Celts, Britons, and Saxons for ages in Norway and Danemark.
"To admit defeat, is to commit a heresy against the Emperor." - Imperial Proverb.
"Well... that was unexpected." - Last words of Chaos Lord Ulakar the Undefeatable.

Don't you like anything middle-eastern? Turks, Fatimids, Khwarezmians...? Cumans might have been a good choice, but I guess the recruitment system makes them undesirable.

Didn't you know that all people in the Middle East are terrorists.Thats the reason, I assume so anyway.

Don't assume "all". Cuz someone who originated from there will quickly answer badly to that

Well, though I'm not a muslim and I'm not a turk, I like the idea of playing with the Turks and forming the Ottoman Empire (i.e. conquering those regions) and forcibly convert the world to Islam . While The Khwarezmian Empire makes me think of Persia. Anyway, perhaps the Roman Empire can be called to belong to the Middle-Eastern, or at least it has strong contact with them. So the Roman Empire is also a good choice.

Ireland was a lot of fun when using swarms of spear militia, ceithernes and deisi javelins in melee. Really gets the "Angry mob" vibe across, especially when you've got an army of a bunch of javelin guys running around, clubbing knights with shillelaghs.

Why not migrate Ireland to the middle east?

Just played a campaign as CS (Templar) in 6.3 here- and it was very fun and difficult- up until around turn 30 when Egypt was dead and the turks/romans are at war with everyone around them, severely weakened, so pushing towards Constantinople hasnt really been much of a challenge (on turn 90 or so now- when do the Mongals show up btw? could liven up that save a fair bit)

Theres just a ton of easy choke points playing as CS to control, the moors are too far away to give any problems, and you can control Adanato fend off any Byzant push, the turks seem to flop to the Byzants and Khwarez, and it just seemed too easy conquering the turks about 20 turns after the fatmids had been seen to.

Currently playing as Lithuania, and OMG, its so intense. Tried to play defensively, being nice to everyone and just going for rebel settlements, around turn 18 Poland decided to kick up a fuss, so a huge 30turn war ensues, before Novograd, Kiev, my allies the Hungarians, and the HRE decide within 2 turns of each other to all declare war....

Sorry for the ramble, but my point is- playing a faction without easy to defend choke points is waaaaaay more fun, so dont chose any British Isles or Spanish Peninsula factions!

Did you try the Cumans? With the Gracul's AI, THAT IS HARD TO DEFEND! I was playing OST 2tpy: I had to leave the highly developed Targoviste to the Romans, I was at war with them, with Hungary, with Kiev, with the turks and with the khwarezms! Now the cumans have poor economy, weak units, very spread-out territory, and surrounded by all religions (so they send their priests to you)!
