Abandoning siege equipment?

Hello fellow gamers,

one question came to my mind:

is there any possibility, like a Hotkey, to force the crew of a siege equipment like ballista, cannon or the great cross to abandon their equipment ?

I am aware that the game lets them drop their tools when they are out of ammunition, or under direct attack, but in the second case it's obviously too late in most cases due to the bad melee stats.

When the unit is selected, hold ALT and order them to attack the enemy in melee. they will drop the siege equipment and march to attack, then you can cancel the order and can do whatever you want with them.

Also... you can make them retreat by pressing Ctrl-W... and of course cancel that order too....
