RSII With Steam
Okay, first let me say the mods can close any other topic in which I have been posting, I'll summarize my issues here and hopefully it will be easier to solve my issues.
Setup
Rome:TW Gold from Steam
Windows 7
Installed RSII in a new folder, then copy and pasted the contents over to the RTWG folder within Steam.
Issue
I thought I had two issues, but now I believe them to be interrelated. At first I was unable to even launch the game from the launcher, reinstalling RTW and RSII (without the 2.1a patch) allows me to boot the game using the launcher.
Despite what mod I select (play as Rome, Carthage, etc.) it seems the launcher always loads "play_battles" because my only options in SP is Historical and Custom Battles. I can load neither the historical battles or custom battles from this manner, however. In custom battles, trying to load the battle map returns me to the faction select screen.
I am, however, able to launch play_rome using the "set launch options" technique via Steam directly, and the Campaign loads up fine.
Should I just launch from Steam, and forget about the handiness of the launcher? It's no big issue, I just want to ensure I get the full RSII experience, in particular that high res models option you can tick from the launcher!
Thanks for the help in advance. Much appreciated!

Re: RSII With Steam
Try launching from bat files, see what happens.

Re: RSII With Steam
I have tried and failed to successfully install and play RSII with STEAM twice now. I am somewhat new to modding (the only mod I've successfully installed and played is Third Age: Total War for Medieval II: Total War), so could someone post CLEAR and SIMPLE instructions to successfully install and run RSII with STEAM please? Or perhaps email them to me? Because I seem to get lost in the multiple instructions posted by the RSII team. I would deeply appreciate any help that anyone could provide.

Re: RSII With Steam
Okay, here is the result of launching from the .bat files, with Steam opened and logged in:
RS2_RTW = Application Error - Failed to find Steam.
RS2_BI = Application Error - Failed to find Steam.
LaunchSteamBI = Loads the same thing as the launcher (says -mod: play_rome but it's the battles but I can't load any of them).
@Hunt0021 - The RSII team has pretty straightforward instructions, but follow what I mentioned in my first post:
1) Download RSII. Have RTW installed through Steam. You may wish to make a backup of the game files, I did not as RTW takes like 25 minutes to download and I don't mind just doing that.
2) With all the components of the RSII installer in the same directory, install to a new, generic folder. I named mine RSII, in the same directory as my install .exe (D:/Storage/Downloads/RSII).
3) With the installer completed, open the new folder (RSII) copy, and paste the entire contents into the "rome total war gold" folder under ///Steam/steamapps/common/rome total war gold (where /// is whatever directory you have Steam installed to). If asked to overwrite, select yes to all.
4) Install completed! That is the stage I am at now. The shortcut on the desktop will not work as is, so just delete it. To run the game via Steam, right click on the game in your library, select properties > set launch options and enter
" -mod: Play_Rome -nm -show_err" (don't forget the first space before -mod). Substitute Rome for whatever faction you want to play as, check the post in the original RSII Team thread.

Re: RSII With Steam
@Lukianos, would you be ok to use a modified launcher that'll show errors when something happens? (I'll code it myself)
This way i can track where your launcher stops working.
Also, is that the default install path for steam, AND also the location RTW was installed to?

Re: RSII With Steam
Hellhound,
I tried the launcher, no avail. I got a similar result as when I tried the standard launcher after patching to 2.1a. So let me just clear a few things up before we proceed further:
Is the launcher you created for RS 2.0, or for 2.1a?
In case the path I gave for the install was of importance, I wasn't 100% accurate with the pathway, so here it is as well:
E:\Steam\steamapps\common\rome total war gold

Re: RSII With Steam
It doesnt matter, they both load in the same way, using the same files.
Thanks, that may be why it didnt load
Ill edit it a bit and re-upload

Re: RSII With Steam
No problem buddy, your registry had the default steam path (which the launcher uses) as something other than what you have now.
Enjoy!
Resolved and Closed.
(ooh almost forgot, dont forget if you move the steam path, the launcher will stop working!)
