wots the future for napoleon.

as shogun 2 has been released. wot is the future for good old nappy. for me shogun 2 seems as interesting as a box of frogs. i love napoleonic wargaming and that particular era in history but will this great game die a death or will it continue. tell me wot u guys think..

I am going to build a new PC after my June exams, and will pretty much split my time evenly between Napoleon and Shogun.
I'm sure ShogunII will be fun, but Napoleon suits me almost perfectly (I love the style of battle, and the way guns/artillery and units are used, and just the general way you play the game).

i'll be playing NTW3 mod for napoleon

Fewer people are playing Napoleon now, so I plan to just install an AI mod and see how long that entertains me :/ maybe get my hands on Black Ops.

my general take on things at the moment is that alot of the veteran players have moved on to shogun2 but there seems alot of new players coming thru. i got to admit that i'm waiting for games abit longer but it still seems busy.
this morning i popped into my local games shop and they have a games chart of the top 10 best selling pc games.
world of warcraft and its many variants seemed to take all the top slots and shogun2 was number 7. surprisingly though at number 8 was empire and nappy. sold together as a joint game.
so i think we will get a new set of players coming into the game...

Every time I try there are like 5 games in progress... And 1 or 2 that are waiting.

I have no interest in shogun 2 at all (actually the more i see of it the less impressed i am), so i certainly wont be leaving NTW and im sure there are plenty that feel the way i do. I can imagine shogun 2 being bought by a lot of kids expecting to see ninjas flying through air with Jackie Chan and the contestants from mortal Kombat making some sort of appearance im sure lol so i dont think we are missing out too much in the way of "good opponents" for NTW. Just my thoughts anyway..

i agree totally with u there...

shogun 2 looks like it would be a better single player experience than multi as most battles will end up as a melee bundle rather than the tactical manoeveering of ntw. Its a very different era and style of game. To be honest i have hardly played the ntw campaigns and focussed almost entirely on multi. I liked the civilastion/nation building on MTW2 and Rome so maybe i'll get Shogun 2 for that, but from what i've seen the multiplayer aspect seems a bit lame compared to ntw.

There will most likely big a drop in Napoleon players, however after a couple of months, probably when the Summer holidays begin, people will trickle back to Napoleon, however I doubt the numbers will ever be as great as they were.

You wouldn't expect them to be the same as pre-Shogun II. However, many people (inc. me )do favour the 17/18-00s warfare, so will play that, but play Shogun simply because it is the latest installment/better graphics or for whatever reason.

i'm getting games quite regular but i must admit i do have to wait abit sometimes. considering that shogun 2 has just come out. thats pretty good. i'm located in england ikcti but i thought they put all the games in one lobby. where abouts are u?...

It's the timezone difference I'm in Singapore.

I think the numbers would decline ,But certainly far from dying point. Personally ,I like Napoleonic warfare more than feudal japan ,Although this is my problem because I know little about Shogun era (Buying the game can be helpful becasue of learning more about the japan). I will get S2TW when the game is polished and patched properly. But I know I wouldn't play it for long and will get back to Napoleon ,Except they make it moddable enough so the modders can make mods of different time periods for shogun2.

I was prepared to dislike Shogun2 but after a few days of playing online i must say that i am really loving it.

Well I am exactly the opposite. I am OK with Japanese setting, and loved the first Shogun. I was also expecting a lot from new MP options.

So far, it has been a huge disappointment, not only it's buggy as HELL, there are also many worrisome and plain wrong design decisions that I won't like even if/when they become bug free.

For better or worse, I see myself playing Naps MP for quite a long time, probably till the next TW. At the moment I doubt I will even buy S2. The copy I bought is for my son. He does not like the game either, but he's kid, he had expectations so huge that I had to buy the game for him even after the disappointing demo (and yes, demo was disappointing for the both of us too so I can't say I feel cheated).

I am using his copy as beta test and I definitely don't like what I see. We planned to take two copies and play MP on house network, but it probably ain't gonna happen (we still have NTW though ).

@achilleslastand. i'm getting mixed reports about shogun. that its buggy as hell (well no surprise there) and it lags etc. then theres alot of guys who are saying that they like it. so it sounds abit like a marmite game. u either love it or hate it. personally i will be sticking to nappy. alot of my clan HUNTSMAN are divided also but most i am glad to say are sticking with nappy also..

Since napoleon is the most up to date `fire fight` orientated game in the total war series it should keep healthy numbers.
