    Default Dealing with Plague

im playing a campaign as julii, and just as arretium reached about 11,500 population the plague came...now 3000 people have died from it and set my development back a long way. not only that i had a whole generation of family members who were studying to be managers in the city, 7 in total including lucius julius! Vibius was killed a few turns ago in a riot and Flavius died within the next couple of turns. not a good time for the julii family

i stand to lose a massive part of the family if they all die, il be left with a handful of generals, no managers or politicians :sweatingb

now the city is clear of plague but the generals are still infected, will they ever heal?

and as far as i can remember iv never had my capital affected by plague, i usually have alot of family members there, has it happened to anyone else? im considering giving up the campaign.

You do not have to give up your campaign. Just keep your family members apart from forces and don't move them into other cities as long as they are infected. They will actually lose their disease after some time (about 5-10 turns). Should many of them die, be sure to get many candidates for adoption. So I would not worry too much, if I were you.
From the pride and arrogance of the Romans nothing is sacred. But the vindictive gods are now at hand. On this spot we must either conquer, or die with glory (Boudiccas Speech, Tacitus, Annals, XIV, 35)

Spreading plague is always an option to reduce your enemies in a very effective way. Just create the units Sitarius mentioned and send them into AI controlled cities. It can work wonders. However - I only do so when feeling very desperate.

i mite do that, thanks. its happened just as i got some stability in my empire and was about to start working on the economy and get ready for the marius reforms and civil war, so i might spread the plague into rome and southern italy.

i just cant believe the timing of this plague, couldnt of happened at a worse time!

But don't forget, there is a chance that your general will get kill by plauge. I have two admiral who had plauge more than 20 turns! And in the end he still got kill...
