I know many of you savvy players from previous games in the Total War series are already using this. But I think it's worth mentioning because this "hidden" feature might be hard to find for new players.
The standard camera has a limit on how high up in the air you can go. The unrestricted camera lets you go as high up as you want, which gets you a much better view over the battlefield.
Most experienced players use it and you should too.
There are two ways to enable unrestricted camera:
1. Manually editing the preferences.script.txt file in the notepad, changing the following line:
default_camera_type 2; # default_battle_camera <card32>, default battle camera: 0-totalwar 1-rts 2-debug #
or
2. Using this small app, which has a user interface for conveniently making the above changes to the preferences file.

The app works with ETW, NTW, and TWS2.
Note: Changing any preferences from within TW will overwrite the camera settings, which means you have to exit TW and enable unrestricted camera again.
