    Default Adding epithets ingame

    Hi there,
    To anyone who have a little bit of knowledge in modding this game:

    I'm playing a Seleucid campaign, and I'd like to give my faction leaders some cool epithets (they traditionally always had one). Adding them ingame with a trigger seems to be complicated, so I might just add the traits in the .txt files and add them ingame via console. Is it possible to do so in an ongoing campaign, or will I screw up something and get a CTD?

    Thanks

    Guide: The complete traits/ancillaries guide

    traits and ancillarys can not be changed during campaign...it will cause problems with savegames

    Thanks for the link, it's great.
    Concerning traits that can't be changed during campaign ... I added a trait in my ongoing Roman campaign that gave more movement points to admirals, and I never had any problem with it. So, do you know if there are certain parameters that are more likely to cause CTD or it's random?

    Cheers

    characters traits/ancillarys are saved in the savegames...if you remove some of them or change them they will most likely cause a CTD as the entrys are not matching the saved data...
    adding a single new trait though could go thru as characters have to adquire the new trait and as long as the new trait does not interfere with any existing one...
    just guessing...
    We added legion ancillarys for the numbered Legions and despite the fact that the Marian Reform did not took place when they where added it turned out that they where not savegame compatible and did not show up as they should...
    same goes for changing Settlement names in the files...you can change them but it will not show up in the current campaign as the engine reads the file only once on campaign start, it requieres a new start unless you activate the Change_Settlement_Names:True in the preferences.txt file

    Thanks for the precisions Chris

    @ Gaius. It worked for me. Did you make the changes in the VnVs file as well? Did you put a trigger ?

    What must I change in the triggers?

    @chris10. I tried adding several epithets in an ongoing campaign and everything works without any problem. So I guess adding traits (as long as it's at the bottom of the list) is OK, but maybe modifying them in game could indeed cause problem.

    @Gaius
    First of all take a look at this: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showth...omats-assasins
    Put your new traits exactly where he says. Don't forget the export_VnVs.txt to add matching description of the trait.

    Here is an example I used,
    in export_descr_character_traits:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    ;------------------------------------------
    Trait Seleucid_Great
    Characters family
    ExcludeCultures barbarian, greek, egyptian, carthaginian, nomad, roman

    Level Seleucid_Great
    Description Seleucid_Great_desc
    EffectsDescription Seleucid_Great_effects_desc
    GainMessage Seleucid_Great_gain_desc
    Epithet Seleucid_Great_epithet_desc
    Threshold 1

    Effect Command 1
    Effect MovementPoints 5

    And in export_VnVs:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    ¬--------------------

    {Seleucid_Great} Conqueror of Egypt and Parthia

    {Seleucid_Great_desc}
    This General has added the provinces of Egypt and Parthia to the Seleucid empire.

    {Seleucid_Great_effects_desc}
    Command +1, Movement Points +5

    {Seleucid_Great_gain_desc}
    This man has become the Conqueror of Egypt and Parthia

    {Seleucid_Great_epithet_desc}
    Megas

    I didn't mess with the triggers (I just add the traits via console when appropriate), so you will need to ask somebody else if it's still a problem

    That is literally exactly what I have...

    Your added traits in the middle of other traits. From what I understood, if you want to add traits ingame, they should be at the very bottom of the file (but before the trigger section in descr_character_traits).

    Did you try adding traits via console? what message do you receive?

    -------

    Oh and a question for others. My epithets are often too long and the end of the word gets cut (ex. "Antiochus Epima" instead of "Epimanes" that should appear). But it doesn't seam to be a problem for others epithets in game, I remember in my Roman campaign your general can have a long name + a long epithet. What did I do wrong?

    Can it CTD if I change the ephitet of a trait which already has an ephitet attached to it?

    I think if you edit the description in the export_VnVs.txt (not the one in brackets) it could work and a different name would show up...no guarantees though
