Default Returning Member in Need of Help

A few months back, TWC used to be my second home. I heavily modified my own R:TW game with various other mods and skins. I used to consider myself very knowledgable, as I had succesfully added units, provinces, etc. to the game numerous times and for many months. However, that all changed when I got a little sloppy and got tired of having to check everything that was modded. So, one day I changed a few different things and when I went to start a campaign to check those things, I got a CTD. Obviously, the "-show_err" dealy doesn't apply to this situation, and school started about two weeks later. I never found the time to see exactly what went wrong until now, but can't figure it out.

At this point I'm just trying to rule things out. Everything works (custom battles, etc.) except the Imperial Campaign, so that means it has to be something with my desc_strat.txt file, right?

or just the world/campaign folder in general. Kind of sucks for you though. Sorry I can't help much.

Yeah but what would cause a CTD like this. I've had them before (we all do) and have always figured out the problem, but this one has me bamboozeled. I took notes on what I changed and marked the things that I completed, and as I look over the notes nothing really stands out.

Did you change the map at all?

Yes, many times. I've added about a dozen provinces, but those worked fine. I wasn't adding settlements when it crashed. If I had been, I would have known what to do.

What files did you modded the last time before your crash? Do you still know what you were trying to mod?

It seems that the last files I had changed were descr_names and descr_names_lookup, modified on 7/12 and 7/11, respectively. The only other file that has been changed at a later date is descr_strat (but it's on 10/9, so it could have just been me trying to fix it).

What I could have been doing is altering the family tree of Egypt to make it more Greek (and therefore giving Egypt some Macedonian names like RTR did). But I think I checked that and everything seems to be in order. Plus, name discrepencies wouldn't cause a CTD, would they?

Yeah, names wont likely cause the ctd... Than it should be descr_strat, but if you dont know what exactly you were trying to fix, well than it is getting hard to figure out what.

Could it have something to do with the intro video that plays before each campaign? Could my drives be messed up somehow? I'm able to play saved campaign games but I don't think that means anything...

Ah, success! It seems I had some problems with the family trees of both Macedon and Egypt. I replaced the entire character sections for both of them with an older copy of desr_strat and it worked. Well now that I know what the problem was, can anybody point me to a good tutorial on how to add names to factions?
