Default How do you change the faction of a province?

I have trouble believing this has never been asked, but nevertheless, I can't find a single reference to it.

I want to change the faction of many settlements. How do I go about doing this? I've edited the descr_strat.txt file but to no avail.

    Please Help.

Did you delete themap.rwm and start a new campaign?

    No.
But just what should be edited in the descr_strat.txt? I changed the faction_creator entry, but now I don't think it quite that simple.

You have move them to the faction you want them under. The first settlement entry for a faction is the Capital of that faction.

Is it that simple? Just move the entry (entries?) under the appropriate faction? and delete themap.rwm?

Let me ask you this and you can tell me if it's possible.

I basically want to have the entire map under 1 faction. The reason is I need some "data" for my website (the link is in my sig) on Point Blank's Stainless Steel RR/RC Compilation. I want to:

#1 - See where all the AOR units are.
#2 - Get an idea of what Guilds produce what units.

You apparently have a pretty good grasp of editing the files. So, am I going about this the right way?

    Phil:

If you look in the descr_strat file, you see that all the settlements of one faction is grouped together.

So lets say you want to move a rebel settlement to say... Byzantium, you just find the entry for the settlement and cut / paste ot under the Byzantium Settlement Group.

But remember you must also repeat the same process for the (garrison) units, other wise there will be problems.

Also, if all you want to do is to look at the AOR and unit recruitment, a easier way is to simply look in the export_descr_building.txt file and just look through the entries.

Look at their hidden_resource definition should be able to tell where they can and can't be built.
1180, an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity in East Asia, it's technology and wealth is the envy of the world. But soon conflict will engulf the entire region with great consequences and lasting effects for centuries to come, not just for this region, but the entire known world, when one man, one people, unites.....

Thanks, I'll give that a try...... but what of this deleting themap.rwm? Is that necessary?

I do realize that the export_descr_building.txtfile has tons of info, but honestly, I have absolute fits trying to follow it. I find it easier for me to just play the game, record the results and compare it to the EDB.txt.
What I've done is heavily edit the descr_events file where all the events that create units come one turn after another. That used in conjunction with the console cheats let me see what buildings and events create units as well as eliminate them.
    Hey, it works for me.
