when to use Shield Formation

I play SPQR 5.0 and i wonder if i should only use the Shield Formation when i defend or can i use it as a offensiv formation or is the original formation better when attacking.

Its better for defense, For one the formation will breakup more if you attack, second it was designed original for defense by the romans. Its mainly designed to hold an enemy for a while, especially when you need to cover a large area, It was used in 2 ranks deep, so any deeper is not historical or fun really as its cheating. If I could have I would have made the formation the 2 ranks only but I couldnt. So its up to the player to use it right.

I use it sometimes in an Offensive maneuver, but mainly to keep my line together so that I can pin enemy forces down and wheel my reserves around the flank and from a V around the enemy. As they break and run out the open end my Cavalry Scoops them up. I'll put some screenies of this maneuver recreated in Custom for ya'll.

thanks for the quick reply. Frome now on i will only use the shield formation in 2 ranks deep
