Steam Is Giving Me a Breakdown - M2TW won't Launch

So M2TW downloads fine and I installed the directx which also installed fine and everything looked normal.

Then I go to launch the game, and the "preparing to launch" box comes up for not even a full second, then disappears.

Zero activity in the task manager and no error messages. It's as if M2TW doesn't exist on my PC at all.

I checked the steam folder and the game and all the files are there. The Launcher and the M2TW.exe are there and trying to launch the game by clicking the .exe does not work either. Same thing happens.

I go to validate the files in the Properties > local tab and every single time I do this, it tells me 1 file can not be validated and re-downloads it. After re-downloading the 1 file, it still doesn't work and I re-validate again and then steam tells me another "1 file" has to be re-downloaded.

So far Steam has had to re-download 3 files. One being 800MB, then another being 990MB, then a 280MB file and now...

It wants to re-download a 2GB file.

I uninstalled it out of frustration.

I thought the $2.50 sale was worth it. I guess you get what you pay for. lol

Oh and all drivers and what not are up to par. Im running a HD 4850, phenom 2 555 dual core with 4 gigs ram on windows xp sp2

I'm downloading service pack 3 for windows xp now. Maybe it will do something.

Any other ideas?

But what happens when those disks break or get scratched?

While I agree with you, please don't start the "OEMGEE STEAM FREEKING SUCKS DOOD!11" thing again.

I'm currently re-downloading the entire thing as I type this. I'm at 5.4GB right now. Got about 2.3GB left until its done.

I installed Service Pack 3, updated Directx and re-installed Steam. Hopefully it will work this time.

That may be why some files are being re-downloaded.

You may be onto something there.
