Default The sassanids dont have tanks?

Historically heavy armour (specially when the horse was also armoured) and horses were expensive. Yet the sassanids have heavily cavalry with half the upkeep of roman comitatensis. And they arent few in number. Actually some of the cavalry have 50 units. Usually large numbers are advantage of low quality units. They as cavalry are reasonably fast and can outmanouver or do hit and run with their bows but they dont need to. For defeating most units all the have to do is get into melee combat straight on. The sassanids had victories and defeats against the romans but here they are almost invicible (unless against a human opponent).
So in conclusion there are fast, have great armour, are masters of both melee and missile combat and are numerous. If you want to overpower them why not giving them tanks instead? It would more effective.

Hmmm, shall I give the Asavaran horsearchers the ability of body-penetrating missile fire (like a Ballista)?

Give them explosive onager rounds too with a splash damage area of 60 meters and max attack. And the thrown attribute that allows them to take several hitpoints with a single hit.

what about making those explosive rounds actually as the cluster bombs? that way they would broke the Geneva convention but it would create mayhem among the Romans.
