    Default @ Greek City States

Just started a GCS campaign, about 15 years into it so far. I really like it, and the diversity of units is pretty neat. Basically, I've decided to hold Greece Proper (have already killed Sparta), Syracuse, Massalia, the Black Sea area (Crimea), Crete, and Rhodes...I've abandoned or lost the rest (this past turn Pergamon just took Nicomedia ). Rome has just betrayed me, so my Syracusian Armies have just blown them outta Sicily.

Anyways, was wondering what experienced Greek players like to do? I find that, even after losing/abandoning about 1/2 my starting cities, I make silly good $...more than I can even spend, all my city ques are full and still get 130k or more a turn. My armies are hard and tough...hoplite based with heavy archer and cavalry support (not historical fyi, but not spammed with elites either). My navy is growing too (need to spend money on something ).

I play on H/H with Alex and basically wonder what stragedies others like to use playing the Greeks?

In terms of the money its just an illusion you need to smartly put it in your economy as by the 100 turn mark (unless you turtle) you will be really hard for cash as most of your income comes from your starting cities so any new territories you add for quite some time will be unprofitable and a huge drain on your economy

Yeah, I sorta figured something like that would happen. Income is going down slowly atm, but I do invest in my cities. Sorta turtling in lower Greece atm, pressing the attacks in Massalia and Syracuse vs. the Romans. Treading water in the Bosporian area too, trying to get the cities there up to par before the nasty HA's from the steppes come calling... Crete and Rhodes are nice cash cows...just gotta watch out for the occasional naval invasion (which happily I've seen several so far, even with alex)

Depending on what version you are running I'd suggest investing into your economy butr also raising new armies as eventually you will meet another huge faction that will have mulltiple stacks.

Send out diplomats to spy on foreign states so you get warning of any army build up.

Thats a good idea. In my games its usually the Ptolemies that get a ridiculous buildup, or the Cimbri.

I have a long ...long going campaign with the gcs and love their huge but limited aor.
That being said what I did was similar to you except I invaded italy with everything I had after taking Sicily I used navy to transport cataphracts from bosporon kingdom to beat Romans. I then secured an alliance with samarata and left a large army in the north for reassurance. While fighting Italy I held macedon back near the hot gates until mainland Italy was secured this tactic isn't good if you want to fight post reform Romans tho. I then invaded Macedonia and Ionia Pergamon then egyt and Syria the key is a good navy

When I played Greek cities on VH/VH, I went after Greece itself and Anatolia as there is no culture penalty and tried to make sure I had full stacks in the more far-flung cities with treasuries (holding them is essential, if you can do it the Greeks easily become one of the richest factions in the game). Taking out other Greek cities (eg Pella, Pergamon, Sparta) with treasuries is also handy as you get the full benefit from them.

Holding full stacks in Massalia and Syracuse but not attacking tends to deter the Romans from betraying you for at least the first 20 turns I've found. Same goes for that city in the far north east with Scythia/Sarmatia.

I usually go and take out the Romans ASAP.
