    Icon9 Huge problem after 2-year game...

    Ok, I tried to look at, prolly didn't look hard enough, but this is the bottom of the pit for me, if y'all know what I mean...

    Yeah, I'm a sluggish player, and I have a Sweboz game I've been playing over the last two years. Or more, I know this game went trough three different computers (1 computer and 2 notebooks), and I am very fond of it. I would even upload my latest 'stage', if you like.

    Well, I simply play through a week 3 hours a day, than whole month not playing, and so on and on. I also sometimes load 'past' some huge mistakes I often make, than that's the explanation of why it's been trough 2 'long' (but fun) years.

    Finally, I was reaching the 200, then 190's b.C., and obviously I am anxious on training the germanic heavy cavalry that will become available, and the so-long-awaited Sweboz reforms. But since the 200's, something got very odd.

    First of all, the nice (and I spend carefully reading then, takes over 10 minutes depending) "This Year in History" text that springs every year (four turns) stopped abruptly. I loaded past, certified on clicking the infamous "Show me how", the year check is ok, but still, nothing. Than, around 202, the QartHadastim simply berserked over Rome, and now it's pitifully reduced to three territories with lots of freed slaves to keep them (prolly not for long...), Epeiros rolled over Greece and Thrace, Arche Seleukeia terminated lots of east civilizations, and now get to the point: Eborunum full built up, in gov II type, owning from Asodat to Armoriae, all markets everywhere needed, etc etc... AND NO REFORM!

    Well, since I've no intention to start 'from scratch' right away, I was wondering what the hell went wrong?!?!?! One of the fun things I was planning, to in the future battle the mighty Romans, is already 'gone', since I doubt the Cartaginians will let them live. And now, my so-awaited reform hasn't come!

    I got the EB 1.2 in a BI 1.6 version, and uploaded the more 'recent' save.

    PLEASE, someone help me! I'd be very thankful!

    Well, first things first: The "Year in History" messages stopping is not a bug or a problem. They simply weren't made for the later years partially because they're more easily researchable by the layman and partially because they took up time/space that was better-served elsewhere (AFAIK, anyway).

    Second, regarding the berserk AIs: again, not necessarily a problem. In my games that have gotten to the late 200s, Epeiros usually becomes a regional power after steamrolling Macedon and confining the Greeks, the Seleukids usually end up being slowly devoured or chowing down on everyone else, and Carthage actually has been driving up Rome in my Makedone campaign (they're currently see-sawing at Rhegion, actually, but it's only in the 230s).

    Now, for the last issue, I may not really be of much help. Now, just to be sure, do you have the right Barracks in one of the cities? In the FAQ, it does say "Regional" barracks, which means not the Level 4 Factional Barracks you get with the Type II government, but the Level 4 Regional Barracks you would get with the Type III and IV government. Also, checking in the game script leaves me confused at this number:

    ; Check counters are >= 6 and >= 1 or 140BC, if true set counter 1, if false set counters 0
    monitor_event FactionTurnStart FactionType germans
    and I_TurnNumber >= 328
    and I_CompareCounter Sweboz_Reform = 0
    and I_CompareCounter Sweboz_ReformTested = 1
    if I_TurnNumber >= 528
    I have absolutely no idea what that number is for, but all other instances of turn number in the Sweboz Reform section are 328. I think it means the Reforms will occur automatically in 140 BC (528 turns in, I guess?), but I don't know scripting.
    I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

    whoa whoa WHOA!!!

    THAT seems to be a HUGE problem indeed! I understand even less about coding than you, since you found that strange number! It does mean that somehow I screwed things during the long history of copying the savegames from computer to computer! Hopefully, I will try to 'tinker' around it (trying NOT to screw my game more than it is...)

    HUGE thanks to you m8, for answering my other doubts. I do have little knowledge whenever is one thing or other, but since the other themes don't necessarily are bugs, I still have hopes of having a heavy cavalry to smash the rest of my enemies, heheheheh.

    Again thank you, and let's see what I can do about it...

    No, I think you misunderstood - that's what *my* Script says, so what I'm thinking is that there might be an error in the script itself. Again, not that I know scripting at all, so I don't know what it's supposed to say, or what it actually does say. Copying savegames from PC to PC shouldn't affect them at all.

    My script agrees with you.

    At least 190BC,
    -A (forum)(L3 Market) built in these provinces: Kimbriolandam, Swebolandam, Rugolandam, Herusklandam, Habukolandam, Mrog Actagone (previously Hattolandam)
    - (army_barracks_U1)(L4 Regional MIC) in one of these provinces: Luvarottea, Sarmiszegethusa, Burdava, Eburonum, Vindobona, Iuvavoaeta, Veldideno, Aventicos, Vindelicoppidos, Vienna
    Do you have all the markets build up? The right barrack? All fixes for 1.2 installed?
    The script will fire 140BC regardlessly what the Sweboz are doing.

    I'll try the 'latest' fixes for 1.2, AFAIK I've dwnded them. But who knows, prolly I missed them in this pc install.

    Hopefully it IS the prob. But if the 'solution' is to wait until 140 b.C., as X said, then well... who knows next year I get it ? (bfore the END OF THE WORLD, of course )

    Let's see if I manage to install it and run it properly, since it's partially retroactive. About that MIC's too high and stuff. I'll edit this post, if it goes OK.

    Once again thanks m8! I miss the balloons from other forums

    If you backup your savegame and EBBS.txt (found in \EB\Data\scripts) you can edit the turn number manually so you get them earlier, just change

    if I_TurnNumber >= 528

    to something nearer to your date, i.e.

    if I_TurnNumber >= XXX

    Don't forget to backup your data.

    Interestingly, the pic I have with that pic calls it a bunny ... I can't tell the difference, though.

    Funny you should phrase it that way ...

    You could found a religion based on that pic!

    I very sincerely apologize, first for mistaking it to a guinea pig, second to somehow insulting your matriarch.
