How do I Take Regions from Nomads?

For the first time I went to war with nomads, but I found that I could only make them tributaries at the most. How do I take their land? The AI is able too, and the only way to expand onto the steppe seems to be waiting for AI controlled Westerners or Russians to do the job for me. Conversely, is there any way I can take land as nomads?

I haven't got Divided Wind yet, but from the previews, I thought you had to colonize their provinces akin to colonising unowned land. There's a few details I'm unaware though

Regarding taking land, you need to occupy the province, and then send colonists there. You get huge colonist bonuses for bordering Nomads (hence why Ming loves to rapidly expand into Russia) just for this purpose. Keep sending them, and once your colony has 1000 inhabitants, the province defects to you (it will not change religion or culture though). If during any time the province is removed from your occupation, your colony is destroyed, and you start from scratch.

As for Nomads taking land, I believe there's a defection event for their Cores, and maybe other defection events, but you can't really take any land.

They can take land by occupying provinces. The province will lose 1 building/year and will defect to the nomads upon the province having no buildings.

That's now true in the beta patch. This wasn't implemented when I wrote that.
