The Importance of Hot Keys!

Just how vital do you think hot keys are?

I use one for just about everything, run, square, halt, fire at will, wedge formation. But i find square and run are the most essential hotkeys to have. (I assign them to R and T) They speed up micro, and allow you to move your mouse and camera about the field without having to worry about clicking on a button.

However sometimes I find myself bashing the square key in frustration and wondering why they arent squaring, then i look down and i see i've been hammering away at the R key instead of the T.

Whilst these Hotkeys have undoubtably cost me a couple of old guard, they have saved my arse numerously times more.

To all those new players : GET SOME HOTKEYS!!. They will take a while to remember and implament as a habit into your gameplay, but trust me it pays off.

I use custom hotkeys for everything but the special abilities like Square formation. Taking your hand off your mouse for the purpose of clicking the number eight kinda slows down your micro or your concentration on the screen. You have to hold Shift + 8 to form square with a unit clicked. I find it more efficient just clicking the square button.

I only use hotkeys for "run" (r) and "melee mode" (f). I used to for formations but those are broken in NTW.
It seems to me as if using the buttons has a better chance of taking effect when there is lag btw.

i never use hot keys or unrestricted camera. all u need is the hammer...

Hehe I dont use restircted camera either , i just normaly view the battle from the flank as you can still see everything that happens

i don't use hot keys but maybe it would help in those laggy battles where you send a unit into square and then select another unit and the square icon is still highlighted. It's a real pain.

Q for square thats the only one i use.

How do you reconfigure the square hotkey? The default is shift+8 but I can't find "form square" in the options area.
