the 1.4.4 stand-in installation? (help required)

according to the team i only need the 1.4.0 and 1.4.4 patch to completely install the game. previously i had installed the game like this:
1.4.0 -> 1.4.1 -> 1.4.2 -> 1.4.3 -> 1.4.4 -> English Patch 1.4.4

I experienced numerous CTDs and the game was just unplayable, not to mention Dark Elves and Border Princes never had any music.

so i decided to uninstall and reinstall it again only using the 1.4.0 and 1.4.4
i ran both applications as administrator, i have also turned off UAC. also it seems i have to delete Call_of_Warhammer\data\world\maps\base file but there is no such file in my maps folder there is only "campaign" i have reinstalled 3 times and each time the same result. so i said to myself who cares, if its not there then there shouldn't be a problem, and so i installed 1.4.4 patch following these steps http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=427349 after the installation i am asked to delete some folders and text files for water stuff but these files are no where to be found.
anyways long story short when i run the game the splash screen comes up and and in 5 seconds it closes.
what in the world is going on?

if i use method the 1.4.0 -> 1.4.1 -> 1.4.2 -> 1.4.3 -> 1.4.4 -> English Patch 1.4.4 method then all the files i mentioned that were missing will be there but so will the CTDs i was trying to avoid in the first place.

can somebody explain to me what is going on?

1.4 + 1.4.4 + latest 1.4.4 English translation should work. Make sure your 1.4.4 is the cumulative - that it includes 1.4.1+1.4.2+1.4.3. For my part, I also installed the Russian sound. I had about 10 ctds over 140 turns in my just completed campaign. Nearly all ctds were minor and could have been the result of me alt-tabbing repeated as I had to tab out to do other things.

Make sure that you also follow all the suggestions listed in the 1st page of the 1.4.4 important info thread. This helps a great deal. Last, I know this is very obvious, make sure that you are installing everything in the right directory. Other than 1.4, I never install anything into the default directory specified by the patch. I unpack everything into its own directory then copy it over into the
C:/.../Call_of_Warhammer. So 1.4.4 patch goes into 1.4.4 directory, 1.4.4 English translation goes into its own directory, etc. and then are copied over.

Personally I would stay away from 1.4.4., big CTD problems. I am still on 1.4.1

hm...i really don't know which version i have, the first time the team released 1.4.4 i downloaded it. for now il go back to the 1.4.1 or 1.4.2 and hopeful all these bugs could be fixed in 1.4.5

I started with 1.4 had many CTDs, then 1.41 then 1.42 always the same. Then i uninstall all andn donwloaded the cumulative v1.4.4 (3,6GB). Now i dont have CTDs anymore the game is absolutely playable. i would suggest to only download this file,so you dont need to patch anything and have a stable version

can you post link? because there are a few cumulative patch out there. did you download redDwarf's complete 1.4.4 english torrent or the russian 1.4.4 cumulative download at the russian site?

You have my link from Mega Upload for clean 1.4.0, then all you need is 1.4.1 from Russian version. TBH 1.4.4 actually causes CTD's, but whatever floats your boat.

i have all versions on an external drive so going back to 1.4.2 will be a simple matter, some people say they have achieved a stable 1.4.4, im gonna try to explore that if i am unsuccessful and il just go back to my external drive and only install up to 1.4.2
