Default why does the 560 ti have a small amount of stream processors

I was thinking about getting a 560 ti for shogun 2 but why does it have such a small amount of Stream Processors as opposed to its counterpart the ATI 6950?

Quick link for exactly this question.

Generally speaking, I have always preferred ATI cards to Nvidia. Although some game developers optimize their games almost solely for the Nvidias, ATI will, almost always, pwn their Nvidia counterparts.

Overall, what this article says confirms that this pretty much holds true for these two cards, with ATI in question beating its Nvidia competition on the benchmarks.

Basically, what you're looking at is an ATI that runs faster memory and has some overall better hardware to back it up.

Some points that stand out are

The AT runs 88 Texture mapping units to the Nvidias 32 .

It has a 1408 unified shaders compared to the Nvidia's 384

The ATI also has a 250MH advantage over the Nvidia.

About the only areas where the Nvidia beats the ATI is in Core Speed, with a slight 22MG advantage, the Nvidia also runs on shader model 5.0 comapred to the ATI's 4.1

However the ATI requires more power to run, require 200watts to run compared to the Nvidia's 170 watts. So, you might want to make sure your rig can handle the additional power consumption. As result, the ATI may also run hotter.

Truly spoken. I am totally opposed to ATI videocards, even more before AMD purchased them. TW Rome ran like true crap on ATI cards, with artifacts, CTDs, drivers.

In my experience, never buy an ATI card. NVIDIA is going to win the race. they constantly update their drivers, they outweigh in software as much as in hardware. Trust me, do not buy an ATI video chipset, along with the manufaturers who make it if the card was made before 2009. now, have to give them credit because of amd, they are getting better.

AMD has "stream processors" Nvidia has "Processor Cores". They are not the same thing hence why the numbers are so different.

Buy the one that gets higher FPS in games in your price range. That is the only thing that truly matters unless you care about heat, noise, and power consumption which you have to look at individually.

    I know right

It shows the GTX560 as being the better card in games. Sure the 6950 has a higher texel rate and more memory bandwidth but that is entirely irrelevant in comparison to how many FPS the cards are capable of giving in games you play.

I am also a Nvidia lover. I went ATi once and the hardware is miles better but the firmware is easily one of the worst things ever.
Nvidia may not be as powerful but atleast I can rely o t heir drivers about 99% of the time.

ATi's drivers are designed by a preschool class somewhere in India.

Has Nvidia worked out SLI for the i7 series yet? I remember that ATI got corssfire working faster than SLI on the i7

lets see, had a geforce 2, was good ha, then it was a 9600xt, during the age of the 9800pro

had both an 8800gts and an 8800gt (the latter was good but broke lol)

then a HD4850, which was simply superb

now I have an XFX 1GB 6950 and it is brilliant, easily beats a 560ti in a lot of departments

ati drivers ain't as bad as a lot of people make out, but then I myself do not regularly update my drivers unless I encounter some sort of problem

Ok theres some BS in this thread. The 6950 does not easily beat the 560. And they are similar in cost.

I suspect the 560 is quieter and cooler so you can take your pick between the cards...ok the 6950 does beat the 560. But not by much.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...60-ti-review/1 (this has some figures in it).

Ati does not "pwn" nvidia and vice versa. Really silly fanboyism is for ten yr olds...

Also this bad drivers stuff. Both sides have issues and certain games run better for ati than they do nvidia and vice versa.

I had issues with a 295 and sli. No issues with a single 5870 and I did have problems with xfire 5870's. Have gone back to nvidia and yep prefer it that way.

Thats not to say i didnt like ati cards. Buy whatever fits your budget as both are good.

AMD has single floating point processors while Nvidia uses processors that crunch 3 dimensional vectors. So divide AMD by 3 and compare. Nvidia drivers used to be more optimized while AMD used to use brute power.

Im using 2 460 gtx in sli (yay, I finally bought my new pc, thanks everybody for the advices) and I checked some benchmarks. It beats most of the ati cards available with a very similar price, it is almost the same price of a hd 6950.
