Unable to reinstall M2TW need help

Hello, this is not for me but I have a friend who is not able to reinstall M2TW properly and I do not know what advise to give him as this is more complicated than normal.

Here is the problem of grislok. I first got the AVG locking my Kingdoms exe file in vault like others. Also, AVG periodically locked up a system volume operater exe file. I uninstalled AVG and began the process of reinstalling MTW2. I had to hard delete some of this stuff because it would not uninstall regularly. It said my uninstall exe file was missing. I got about to data pack 2 on disc one of MTW2 and got feature transfer errors and cyclic redundancy issue. I tried again and got the same thing. I am a tech idiot. I reinstalled AVG after this failure and sit no closer to being game ready. I have been asked by some helpful folks to take everything off my PC and reinstall it but this is too much for me. My wife is not comfortable with this whole deal. At a loss to continue and pondering retirement. Stylix? Can you help.

If anyone can suggest some steps on how he can get M2TW to work on his computer again this will be greatly appreciated.

Try another antivirus than AVG. Zone alarm has np problems with kingdoms.exe version1.05. In fact, run it through Windows Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, Adaware, and few other freebies.

Sorry to disagree with you. Hope you take it well - you always beat me most of the time.
I just don't trust that a CRC error automatically means a smoked disc.

This seems to me to be a tale of false-positives from AVG. What version was he running?

If he got an error message telling him that his "uninstall.exe" file was missing then maybe that got locked up in Quarantine hell. Although, while I've never looked for one, I can't remember off-hand any uninstall.exe file. It could possibly be somewhere in the Win Installshield info perhaps...

Have him try to delete M2 manually. This will require some knowledge of the Registry and can have potentially bad results if he screws up. Have him make a Restore Point beforehand just for some safety sake.

I can't help but feel he somehow got screwed by an old version of AVG and that has wreaked havoc on his install of M2. Get him an updated Anti-virus, run a scan and try to get his system cleaned up. Then try to manually uninstall M2 and attempt a re-install. Good luck!

He is a gamer, he had handled the disk badly leading to scratches thus CRC error. Could be his drive also but most of the times it's unlikely.
And no i'm not taking it well how dare you!(j/k)
