Biggest graphic card sucks?

I just read on another thread that selecting permanent arrows is a drain on computer graphics cards. I'm running SS 6.4 on a fairly robust Dell XPS 15 laptop with 4 GB RAM and pretty good graphics card (w/ 1 GB memory just in the card). But I've had a few CTDs lately in larger battles. Seems to happen when I pan the camera to see the full enemy force.

I'm definitely seeing loss of fps. Will de-selecting permanent arrows fix this? Any other suggestions for tweaking settings?

Dont know if it will fix it but it will help. Permanent arrows are a huge drain. Turning shadows off or on low helps alot also.

You are joking right?Laptops are generally ill advised for gaming as it is.I get few to no CTDS with my 5970.And it drains the CPU more.

only if you get the wrong laptop. with the right specs and the right brand, you won't have a problem.
I have a dual core ASUS with 512 dedicated graphics card and have no problems with Medieval II, even Empire runs fine.

So that leaves laptop gaming or console gaming. Console gaming isn't a good option for me. The better way to do the cost analysis is to say that, as someone who owns a business, I need a laptop, period. I could have gotten a perfectly decent laptop for $900 but paid a little extra for more juice and graphics for my gaming addiction.

Yes, permanent arrows are a huge drain on graphic capabilities, especially on laptops.

yes but you can't take it anywhere. it stays home all the time.even if you are a commuter away from home 8 hours a day, it doesn't come to school with you.

Good Gaming laptops have like 2 hours battery life so they're a bad choice.

oh yeah, definitely turn off permanent arrows, they are a drain and personally I don't think it adds much to neither visuals nor gameplay.shadows are bad. also antisakjkzk filtering ( ) should not be higher than 8x. I find antialliasing unnecessary and a drain too.

Pcs will always have a place,wnever something like consoles or whatever comes out people are all like"The PC is dying!!!I luv apple tax as well!!" and guess what, still going strong.

PCs are a mature market... so they aren't seeing crazy growth compared to some of the newer small comp markets like tablets and cell. In USA/Europe desktop PCs are stable or slightly declining by about 2-3% per year. Worldwide however desktops are growing around 4% per year which more than offsets losses to USA/Europe. Of course meanwhile laptops are growing about 12% a year while cell smartphones and tablets are going crazy but they are still in early phase growth. So PCs are likely to slowly die over next 20 years but are still better for certain applications so there could easily be niche markets remaining longer.

I use Gateway's FX series gaming laptop and can run games like Crysis on the highest quality - don't diss our gaming laptops, man. I don't really suffer from performance issues with SS - a few huge battles may slow the machine down a tad, but rarely am I disappointed when playing.
