Default Submod idea: Remove retraining? Napoleon-esque replenishment possible?

I was wondering if it's possible to apply the regenerating trait of General's Bodyguard to all units and just remove retraining all together, nothing annoys me more in Med II than having to have units a specific building in order to retrain them (Ex: Spearmen Sergeants can only be retrained in a castle with a certain barracks level) and I thought implementing a system closer to Napoleon:Total War's replenishment system would be a cool way to get around this. I'm aware that certain units in the EDU have to be designated as the "General's unit" and my concern is that designating them as such gives them the regenerative trait, which I think would make this impossible to implement. Another concern I have is that it isn't possible to edit the magnitude of regeneration per turn which might cause balance issues. If it's a simple matter of text editing, and if it's possible, I'll probably take it upon myself to make this (But I'm going to wait for the CHIP mod ).

The game will only take the first general_unit unit to be "regenerative" bodyguard per faction.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Damn it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer though.

h - if you want to give yourself an interesting project you could implement something like the NTW system.

(apologies if this is a bit confusing)

The ALltowns/ onesettlementype mods make all units capable of being recruited in all settlements (which are towns, not castles)
Fed Putz did a similar idea by making all units available in towns and castles but with the usual restrictions.

What you'd need to do is to make all units available in every settlement (town or castle) at every level, but have very restrictive recruitment pools and replenishment rates
for every settlement. (Say by having a recruitment pool max of 1 per lower level settlements and replenishment rate of 0.05 (1 every 20 turns) for higher level units

You'd also need to make sure towns have stables and ranges (easy to - remove the castle part of their definition in EDB) and then sort out duplicated units etc.

If you clone the top layer of barracks etc to the lower levels (and remove the original entries) it'll save retyping the entries and then "all" you have to do is reduce the availability at each successive lower level.

The human player can then retrain all their units in every settlement (but it will take time before some are available.)

The AI will retrain units if they stay long enough in a settlement and there are spare recruitment slots (you may want to free up some by making all units take 1 turn to recruit and compensating by reducing the replenishment rate.) The problem, of course, is that the AI rarely bothers to replenish its units and we can't script it to do so. Although you'll probably find the capital is well defended and units upgraded (when possible.)

Whether it's worth the effort to do is entirely a matter for you, i couldn't possibly comment.

What? You mean I can't retrain battle losses in SS 6.4 like I did in the vanilla M2TW Gold Edition? I'm playing Scotland, Early Era now and the only cavalry they own in the whole game is the hobilars and border horse when I check the building tree. In the vanilla version I played England, and I couldn't retrain Bodyguard losses until mid-game, until I built the Earl's or King's Stables.

That isn't the point of this topic. This is about retraining the units like it is done in Napoleon-TW.

Oh. I misunderstood. Thanks for clarifying!
