    Default Virus in 1.05 patch?

Hey folks, got a big problem here. I reinstalled Kingdoms, and go to patch it to 1.05 using one of the US Gold mirror sites (I later used all four of the mirror sites, and all had problems...keep reading). I download it, and then bam, few minutes later AVG detects the Win32/Heur Trojan Virus IN the patch.

Thats a pretty serious detection right there, so I went onto the Total War yuku site to message Jack Lusted and Mark O'Connell.

Anyway. Not going to ask anyone to voluntarily download an infected patch onto their computer, but if anyone is so inclined and want to test it...give it a try. See if you get the same thing and report back.

Downloading the patch again after cleaning my PC...will report back in a while.

Edit: Oh snap. The Total War forums at Yuku have been abandoned. And then I try and sign up at their new site, and even after registering it doesn't recognize me. Crap. Anyone who is a member there want to try and contact CA admins and tell them about this? Oh yah, and I used the internode mirror site for the US patch, and that one is infected as well. Trying the next one....

Edit2: Gameborder is only allowing me to download if I sign in with my facebook account. Pff. Next.

I have the one from Gamershell, iirc, when it was first released, burned it to cd when proven to be a good download.

Contact www.sega.com/support about it. They are the only legal patches out there.

Got it, I'll give it a shot right now.

What am I saying, its 7 PM right now? I'll try it tomorrow.

Once again, if anyone has had this same problem, do tell.

Another question, for when this virus thing is sorted out. I'm not much of a tech person, so how exactly do I get the game patched when I get this RAR file? I know it has to be extracted, or unzipped, or something, but I'm completely lost here.

Download in install the free version of Winrar. If you have 7zip, it works, too.

Just unzip it to your desktop and run the setup.exe from there.

    Good luck.

    You're welcome.

Did AVG just do an update? It could ba a false-positive but check with Sega first.

I did a deep scan on miy system Monay morning and everything was clean. I use Zone Alarm.

    I am hoping it's a false-positive.

I installed Kingdoms on my new PC in October(?) and then installed TATW a couple of days later. I haven't played since November. A couple of days ago I decided to install SS6.1 from my HDD. Yesterday I upgraded from 6.1 to 6.3 and 6.4. I used the torrent site that was recommended in the forum to download 6.3 but had to use Filefront for 6.4. I installed it and had some problems getting it running (UAC) before I got an AVG pop-up telling me that kingdoms.exe had been infected with Win32/Heur. I did what AVG recommended and put the file in the vault and went looking for info on the net. The most common solution I came across mentioned that it will show up in system processes but it didn't show up in mine. I then got rid of the file I d/l'd from Filefront and got the one from the other site (can't think of what it was off the top of my head) and it all seems to work fine. Earlier today AVG also informed me that the .exe for Battlefield 2142 was also infected. While it is installed, I was never able to get BF2142 to work on this PC so has never been played, but I forced the files into the vault anyway.
I'm currently playing as England, and after hammering the Scots the Pope went medieval on my ass and booted me out of the God club. Next thing I know, I have dirty foreigners landing on my shores from wierd and far-flung countries. - Sargon_of_Akkad

    To both Irish and Sokar:

I'm thinking it's a false positive (I downloaded Avant AV and it found nothing, not even spybot found anything), but it still managed to destroy my exe anyway. Anyway, funny story now, my computer doesn't operate normally (I'm in safe mode). I'll go to the desktop, double click an icon, or try to load up the start menu, and NOTHING happens.

So, its possible one of those Win32/Heur viruses did kick my system in the teeth, and while there is no virus anymore, it left my OS in the dumps. Either way, my compy can't operate in its default setting so I'm going to have to reformat. Fun fun fun...

Have you tried making a new user account giving it admin rights and logging in on it?

If it works, you can delete your old account.

I suppose I could give that a try, but I have to ask, has that worked before?

I haven't. GED suggested it the thread about this in the Basement and he's smarter at it than me.

Alrightee. So after a month of using safe mode, my computer is ok. You were right Irish, AVG not only was detecting a false positive, but it ended up going completely nuts as well. So my computer is working fine.

But now I have a new problem with the 1.5 update. I download it again, extract it to the desktop, go to the setup.exe, it begins to patch to 1.5, and then it utterly fails. A little message pops up and says:

Errpr: Invalid or missing target C Program Files M2 Total War Mods America packs localized pack

    If this problem persists try:

    - Uninstall M2 TW Americas
    - Delete the America Mods folder
    - Reinstall M2 TW Americas
    - Install the Kingdoms Update

Which is all completely ridiculous. I tried uninstalling Kingdoms entirely, did a fresh install, and still the same thing. This problem also occurs with the other Kingdoms campaigns. And this is the right patch, I bought the Gold version way back when and this is the Kingdoms Gold patch.

Is it the right language for your Gold Edition? What language did you buy? What language got installed?

Try to download it from another site. It could be corrupted.

You may want to try the UK one. Someone else had to use it a few days ago.

UK Patch for US Gold? Yah I could try that out.

Well my computer is back to being dumb. Bah. Anyway, when I get it working again, I'm going to try downloading the non-gold patch. Here's the thing. I DID buy the Gold Edition. In Dec 07. However I'm now questioning if I did or not because not only does the Gold Patch not work, but I check gamefaqs and they give the release date for the Gold Version as Feb 5th, 2008. So...yah.
