    Default Purchasing RAM

I'm interested in buying some more RAM to complement what I already have. My system currently has a sufficient graphics card and processor. However I only have 512 MB of RAM and I wish to double it to 1 GB.
I have a couple of questions regarding the upgrade.

    1. I know that you need a specific type of RAM depending on what is already in there. How can I find out what type of RAM I have so I can purchase the correct type?
    2. Where is the best (online?) place to purchase RAM from and how much should a 512 MB stick approximately cost?

Also I am looking to upgrade the speakers on my PC. With a budget of about £40-50, what is the best unit to buy? Is it worthwile upgrading my sound card as well?

Look at your mobo manual it should say what kinda memory you could use,the best type of ram is dual channel, you get one gig for 90 or more i think, you should get that if you want memory

Well, Logitech has some cheap 5:1 (5 Speakers, 1 Subwoofer) , that are fairly high quality, for around $50 USD. I dont know the conversion to British Pounds, or Euro's.

I'll try to find the name of them on Newegg.com (a U.S Site) for you.

This is the Link to them on Newegg, but again, Europeans cant use it

You can get a good stick of 512mb ram for $40. As long as you have 2 512mb ram it will run in dual channel. You don't have to purchase the 'dual channel' pack or anything, those are just marketing. As long as the size is the same it will run in dual channel.

That's true to a certain extent, most of the time you're good to go with two different kinds of RAM. I would recomend that you get roughly the same RAM as you already have. Just to avoid ne source of possible conflict.
