Wow, I never thought a campaign could go so well in the AI's favor! I was the Scipii playing a long campaign, and as usual I did the normal thing by taking Sicily and then gathering an army to invade Africa. I was beaten by 210 BC (not beaten, but I decided to resign, tresury going down, armies ganging up etc etc...)
I started by immediatly shipping some men to Sicily to fight the Greeks and Carthaginians. This took some 10-15 years, but it was certainly under Roman control. Then I waited while I built my forces and waited untill archers and principes became available to recriut.I built a powerful legion and decided to move to Africa. I boarded my men on the ships and sailed the ocean to Thapsus, a lightly defended town. I invaded and took it with relative ease. However, this is were the struggle started and persisted. Numidia kept sending armies nearby my territories with those pesky Javelins! 5-10 turns later I tried to conquer Carthage. A battle later, the city was mine but I decided to occupy the people. Bad idea by me. My people rebelled, rioted and eventually revolted. However, before this I destroyed all buildings of Carthaginian influence, so any other faction hoping to capture it would not be able to train anyone. Again, bad idea, as I, 15-15 turns later retook it, with no buildings what so ever. Then the Numidians came in force, took Carthage and exterminated my people. At this time Egypt, (with a HUGE empire) invaded my Libyan province. So I only had 3 towns in Africa now, Thapsus, Lepcis Magna and Cyrene. With a ever shrinking bank account and enemies ganging on me AND the other Roman dynastys expanding fast, I decided to resign.
This was probably my most enjoyable campaign (even though I got beat, it was nice to see the AI succed!) ever and I thought I'd like to share it.
