    Hey guys; I am trying to download 6.3 so I can play 6.4 and after I download everything this error keeps popping up. I no longer know what to do but I know I must play this mod. Any help at all would be amazing. The error message says:

    I can't explain it. I know that this smacks of a feeble excuse, but I am not very good with computers; however I have played SS 6.1 for awhile now. I can't seem to download 6.3. – I am trying to play 6.4. I download the necessary files using the links provided. But each time I download each corresponding file. Now, I am not a complete Luddite and I have enough common sense to download in order and after complete download I try to actually install it; but once again. It simply states the error message I have afore-mentioned. I know how incriminating this request may be but is there a way that you might be able to break the process down for me… as I am somewhat… technologically challenged.

    I feel like an ass... but how do I find out which windows, I have?

    I just saw it right next to the start tab! It says windows XP Home Edition. And... as I said, I follow the steps on http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=377824 and then... I download, in order, which takes some time, understandably...

    If I could; I would pay actual money for someone to take care of this. You know, I actually teach martial arts and fencing but I am useless with computers. There is nothing more castratingly embarrassing then being baffled by the simplest of computer questions. I cannot articulate into words just how much I loath technology. Well… the evils of technology. The game itself is not all that bad at all; (which ironically is both a source and solution to my problems) but it’s four in the morning here and now I am ranting. I’ll spare you any further digression by simply stating that I use Windows and that it’s xp.

    He means administrator on your computer. So an account allowed to install any and all programs (.exe files) on your computer.

    Assuming yes:
    Ok when you downloaded 6.3 do you have these files:

    ss6.3-1.bin
    ss6.3-2.bin
    ss6.3-3.bin
    ss6.3-4.bin
    ss6.3-5.bin
    ss6.3.exe

    if you have all those files locate them and move them to a new folder on your desktop labeled ss6.3install.

    ok now open your m2tw mods folder and right click the ss6.3 folder and uncheck read-only and say yes for all the sub-folders.

    open that ss6.3install folder on your desktop and double click the ss6.3.exe file (has a little horsey on it). Run the install. Point the install to your m2tw mods folder. This should reinstall over all your other files and should fix the issue.

    if you don't have those six files, re-download 6.3.

    Ishan, thank you for all the many ingratiating complements albeit, I am unsure what I have done as to warrant them. The thanks should go to you gentleman who really and ultimately are the unsung heroes who are far more worthy of any praise then I am. As to my deficient retardations on the computer; I can assure you that these inabilities are neither an understatement nor embellishment in any size, shape, form or fashion. Trust to faith when I say, I am thoroughly and unambiguously useless with computers.

    On a more personal note: I genuinely have a passion for history and a tremendous love for strategy and tactics, raging from the simplicity of chess to the complexity of Total War. I daresay, it’s one of my only guilty pleasures and I must say there is something quite cathartic about crushing an army of Frankish Mailed Cavalry with just a handful of English Longbowmen. It never gets old. There is just something profoundly therapeutic to it.

    Sincerely though, I hope you guys realize just how talented you are to make these ‘mods’ for layman amateurs such as myself. Lord knows, I wouldn’t be able to code my way out of a wet paper bag with all that techno-bable.

    Regardless of faith or fellowship, I truly hope everyone has a happy and holy Ash Wednesday.

    Post Script: I will do as advised and keep you gentleman updated as to my progress. Or lack of progress knowing me.

    ok now open your m2tw mods folder and right click the ss6.3 folder and uncheck read-only and say yes for all the sub-folders.

    It is as this juncture where I get confused. Trust me, I do appreciate you guys breaking things down in dummy talk for me. How do I access read-only section thing... and how do I say yes? I am looking into the folder and all I see is a data folder, an uninstall folder, and a system.log? My God this is frustrating.

    I can see why you are confused, where have you created a folder for 6.3?

    Please confirm that you have 5 Bin Files and an EXE(Horse)

    I created a folder on my desktop called ss6.3install, as instructed... and yes, all five bin files are in said folder in addition to exe file.

    It's after that, that's when I get extremely confused.

    I want you to double click the Horse, allow the installer to install to Sega/MTW2/Mods, let me know what it does?

    I think the answer is no, but have you or anybody else that uses your PC restricted access to a particular person?

    I tried installing, again; for like the sixth time... It acts like it's going to install all the way but when it is finished an error message pops up and says:

    I just thought of something; I still have ss6.0 downloaded on to my computer. I just found it; would that interfere with the download? How do I get rid of it anyway? There doesn’t seem to be an uninstall.

    And Navajo Joe, I am the only one who uses this computer. I should be in charge of it, right?

    the read only is so whatever not getting written installed correctly will be overwritten and installed correctly.

    so answer these questions:

    1. from the previous failed installs do you have a folder C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3
    2. if yes, right click, click on properties (at the bottom of the right click menu) and at the bottom of the window that pops up should be Attributes: read-only and hidden. There should be a little green check mark or box next to the read only. Click it once to uncheck it (make the green go away) and then click apply.
    3. now try to re-install and tell me if you still have the error.

    if this doesn't work you probably have a faulty download and should just redownload the mod and use the fresh download to install.

    6.0 doesn' t do anything, 6.3 is stand-alone by itself.

    A: Install this 1mb package, with run-time c++ libraries: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
    After you've done that, make sure to go to Stainless Steel start menu group, and run setup.

    Okay, I've been playing and well, I've hit a bit of a glitch. I'm not sure if it something I've done to cause it but I just don't understand what the log is telling me. It looks like the game is trying to reference a unit that doesn't exist. At least that is what I have garnered from it. I am attacking a small band of rebels of about four or five regiments and every time the battle begins. (the whole thing loads, in full mind you) but as soon as I hit "START BATTLE" - the game crashes. Any help would be appreciated. Log is BELOW: (Warning; it's an eyefull)
