    Default Ships

I have half a unit card full of ships, I sent my ships to blockade a port, and some rebel ships intercepted me and attacked me. So I looked at the strength ratio, it was 4:1 in my favour, and then when the battle ended, it didn't say "Average defeat" it didn't say "close defeat" it said CRUSHING defeat. I just don't understand how I could lose with a 4:1 ratio. Let alone lose with a crushing defeat. Can anyone explain the reason of this please?

What difficulty, what mod, and what ship vs what ship? -Leon

If its 4:1, the only way you can lose is by a crushing defeat. Basically, they crushed you. If you were outnumbered 10:1 and you won, it would likely be a Heroic Victory, because it simply couldn't be anything else. If you get a Crushing Defeat it means the AI won a Heroic Victory.

    Don't worry, it rarely happens.

No, no it doesn't rarely happen, I have NEVER won a naval battle. I always lose, every single time. I've fought naval battles at least half a dozen times, not all were crushing defeat, but they were all defeats. I have the first ship available for Romans, and I just started the Imperial campaign recently. I don't know what ships they have. As for a 'mod' I don't understand what that is. I have campaign and battle on Hard difficulty

Just get 5 or 6 ships together into one uber fleet to patrol your waters. They will never be beaten if you keep retraining them. I did this against greece and eventually got 3 gold chevrons for all of them.

Perhaps, but the fact remains I had a 4:1 odds in my favour. The majority of the time, it's at least a 1:1 odd, often times though it's in my favour.

a mod is a modification to make the game different from the original or "vanilla" version. as for your other question, i rarely ever win sea battles, and i rarely ever use navies a lot because of that.

rebel ships are well over-powered and they aren't at all random... there are always the same ship that absolutely kick ass.... you need like 5 times as many ships as them to beat them

Dude, you are only one of the thousands who complain daily about the auto-resolve. Harder levels mean lesser chances of winning naval battles, because you can't fight them in the battle map. So, a 4:1 ratio? Try playing as the gauls and you will have to make your single and pathetic boat in the Atlantic Ocean escape from lots of pirates and the british navy, because at this level Britannia will probably declare war on you. You just can't win.
