Fave Terrain Map

What's your favourite terrain map? A lot of vids are on grassy flats because its a level playing field and no player has an advantage, but i've had some epic matches on terrain maps. Just finished a 3v3 on Salamanca that was very tight and swung back and forth between the two teams. I think it was 1 1/2 hrs. Long periods of skirmishing and probing attacks followed by a major assault on one hill after a bloody fight in the town followed by a dismal retreat and a frantic hill fight aongst trees and houses which ran very close.

I also had a great 4v4 on Siberian Plateau last week where 3 players chose Spain and ganged their guerillas on my flank in front of a French player. I think i was wiped out within less than 10 mins but still got 1600 kills which gave my team a chance to win. I've never seen a game where so much of the battle was fought in melee. The French player used National Guard as a a kind human wave attack along side cav backed by Guard units.

While Waterloo and Borodino aren't as one sided as a lot of people think. Defenders can be very vulnerable if you use team work and attack together.

My top 5 are:

1 Salamanca
2 Siberian Plateau
3 Galician Ria
4 Syrian Ridge
5 Spanish Lakeside

Sorry I just hate homestead (i always lose) and i find the hill rush maps a bit dull.

I think that would pretty much be my choice too tbh.
Syria with the rush for the hill and the fatigue issues

Galician Ria is probably my favourite overall, just a very nice map fullstop.

I don't care to win or lose on this map, just as long as I get to attack. It's fun and challenging. So it deserves my pleasure

yep i think ria is the best by far - next would be syrian

I think my favorite is still Homestead although I overplayed it in ETW already.
I really like Austrian Pinnacles with the rock formations, should be quite a bit less steep though.
Galician Ria is obviously good, I think it would be even better without the large hill on the side although it really matters surprisingly rarely.
The hills in the center of every single one of the hill rush maps are too steep.
What they were thinking when they put the large hills in the deployment zones of Salamanca is beyond me, it's a good map overall.

I despise Siberian Plateau. Not only is it a sorry excuse for a "terrain" map to begin with, the small features strewn across it (houses and stuff) only prevent proper positioning and keep triggering pathfinding issues.

The best maps are the ones you get in campaign.

Although not played often I like prussian hills. Even on low it looks nice

I tend to find the hill rush maps can be effectively over quite quickly. I do think that Ria is a great map where the terrain does not confer one side with too much advantage. I like Salamanca and Siberia because i've had some great battles on them that are in doubt for most of the game. My reservation about grassy flats is that once a flank is gone it can almost be game over even on team battles whereas terrain maps give players an opputunity to regroup and use map features to even the odds and then counter attack.

I like Spanish Lakeside because although the battle front is quite narrow it has multiple levels and you can end up with several very different battles all happening at once.

If you want good terrian maps you should give NTW3 a try

Italian Grass 2v2 is pretty awesome. Homestead is good but very much favours infantry. I use 2 cav max on this map and honestly cant recall ever being beaten 1v1. Galcian Ria is awesome and sally is fun too. Desert maps annoy me a bit because they favour campers.
