    Hi there
I've preordered S2TW. And I am really looking forward to play that game.
Though, when I think about it, I have the feeling that it will be harder for me to totally immerse myself in the game, at least harder than with NTW.

It's totally subjective I know, but for some reasons, even if S2TW will have better graphics, animations, campaign (?), I cant "roleplay" or simply "feel like" a japanese general, while on the opposit "being" a french imperial commander or even Napoleon himself (haha no I'm not mad, thank you) feels somehow more realistic, reachable, doable, ... comfortable (?)

Another aspect are the combats: I really like the idea of armies deployed in lines, backed up with artillery, firing at each other to a certain point and finally going for a melee à la bayonette.
I had the same feeling with MTW/M2TW, when I had to use a lot of melee units: the fact that they charge and fight in line doesnt suit them, it's too rigid, and the 17th-19th century warfare, european style, is much more adapted (once more in my humbe opinion) to the game's mechanics than sword/sword melees.

All in all I dont know what to think. On my hand of course I "cant wait for" the game, will install it, play it. On the other hand, I already feel that I'll be because of what I wrote above somehow disappointed.
Sure, it's way to early to say something about the game as it isnt even released. But it's just a feeling, and I wanted to see if other persons here feel or fear the same.

    /salute

We shall have to wait and see. But I can understand your concerns. Since I fell in love with Total War I craved gunpowder. I probably spent more time playing MTW2 with the early (pretty hopeless) musket units simply because I could. ETW with all of it's shortcomings was a lot closer to the game I wanted. Better in many respects (in my opinion) than even NTW.

Having said the above, if STW2 provides more room on the battle map for flanking moves and has a bit more "rock, paper, scissor" like RTW, then it'll likely stay on the harddrive. ETW and NTW thanks to gunpowder will however always get play from me.

PS: I'll admit to secretly hoping that the next big TW would be the Imperial Age. ETW introduced a "global" map. ETW and NTW started introducing more 19th century technology. It seemed to me to be the logical direction and progression. Oh well....

they made the units super fast and prone to charges to compensate for ai.

In which game cinco? In NTW they seem to be able to do the mile in under Olympic time.

After playing it for already 10 hours or so, I can say that my "fears" were justified. It's just as I thought, the game is good, polished and all.
But it lacks depth in the campaign and on the battlefield.
Just my humble opinion of course.

I've been following S2TW on YouTube and I have to say nothing I've seen thus far looked too impressive to me. This may be the first Total War that I'm going to sit out.
