Year 1603, Spain inherited Portugal but I managed to get them released. Both Spain and Portugal had enormous colonial holdings, and now that they're merged I'm afraid Spain is going to into space.

Is this common with anyone else's games?

I've seen it happen the other way around, with Portugal inheriting Spain. They didn't reform Spain though because I had taken Barcelona from Spain earlier.

They're very likely to collapse, that's waaay overstretched considering the amount of small insignificant colonies they have.

Ya no matter how big Spain seems to get, it seems like France will still pick a bone with them and take over part of their peninsula, causing them to implode into civil war. Or at least in my games.....

So far I've only seen one country defeat France definitively in a land war and that was a Bohemia that was the Emperor.

Ottomans, Poland, and the Mughals are kind of impressive to.

I actually managed to beat france once as italy. I was about to lose, desperatly send them a peace request demanding their surrender and vassalisation. They accepted.

The ottomans in my bohemian game did the same. There was a
-50% warscore and I said they could have peace if I vassalised them. They accepted. Which was really weird!

Looks like someone decided to play the 70 years war scenario.

If you really, really, want to destroy that colonial empire, remember this. Their armies will be split, and occupying all their non-overseas territories will give you 99% warscore. If you're not the same religion as them, force convert them. That combined with maxxed out war exhaustion and lower stability will wreck an overstretched Empire like that very quickly.

Personally I find all I ever get are completely incoherant and random colonial Empires, which resorts in really daft minors grabbing some colonies, getting exiled from Europe, and then migrating there. In my current game i've got a Hansa that's essentially Mali, a Portugal that's essentially Mexico (not my doing that one), and an Avignon that's essentially Quebec.

Well I meant AI. I crush France as soon as possible every European game I play.
The AI Bohemia was rather impressive since it overran all of France in like two months and left them utterly destroyed.
