    Default Map Screen Shots

    MathiasOfAthens IB2 CB Mapper

"Large amount of graphical changes have been made to both the ground types and height files. Paris (Lutetia) has become an island and Scandinavia is a maze of mountains with some resource treasure points throughout. Scotland has become more refined with mountain paths that will prove difficult for armies to move through. Travel by ship may be faster for those seeking to invade the picts. Forests have been redrawn as well and the pictures dont show all of it but they are now more pleasing to the eye but the ability for the player to lay ambushes has not been diminished". The Franks are not too far off in Belgium... during playtests they often invade after several turns.

    lol

Is aurelianum (orleans) on the map Mathias?

Also, If I may remark NOVIODUNUM was a city in multiple places - most prominately a city above durostorum in north Roman Scythia

NOVIDUNUM, is modern-day soissons, and is the capital of the DoS.

So the name probably should be fixed.

Some sources are telling about "Noviodunum", without any pre of sufix.. In translated-names in texts, "Soissons" is appearing, in the others, "Noviodunum" is with "Samarobriva Ambianorum" , "bratuspantium Bellovacorum", "nemetocema Atrebatum".. Si.. nothing else than " Noviodunum"..

The problem is that the term of "Noviodunum" refers to an usual cas of town/city.. (ex : another " Noviodunum" is on the coast of the Loire-River.. :s)

There's quite a few - actually there's a Noviodunum right across the river from our Novidunum aka Soissons

At the time I think the city would of been called Noviodunum, but if I am wrong let me know and we can change the name.

Regarding Aurelianum, it was on the map but we removed it in favor of more regions in the UK, where the focus of the mod is. Aurelianum is just too far south. Its a shame cause it sits on the river and is an excellent location...

    There are also several Mediolaniums...

    Hmmm...
It's up to you about the name, but Novidunum is preferable in my opinion, as that's what I'm using in IBUR for example.

Also, based on this image, Aurelianum would be in the blackened area just between what you've seen/can see and the Seine River

Why are you bringing up Novidunum then? It was known by that name as Mathias has it. It was a region dominated by the Suessiones-Soissons, thus the area is known for the alternate name also or the Kingdom of Soissons

We have the city of Turonum (tours) in that region as a representitive of a huge populated area. It was the gateway between both north and south regions in Gaul on the Loire river

    It's Suessiones :

    Noviodunum means "new hillfort"
The settlement technically could be called Noviodunum, yes, but historically (at least from what I've read and heard) it was called Novidunum, without an O

Tours would be a good one there indeed, but Aurelianum was more prominent and more densely populated for the time.

Here's a proposition, why not put the Alans in the mod? According to Merobaudes Pangeyrico 439, Aetius after crushing the amorican bacaudae under a certain Tibattio in 435, settled Alans along the Seine Basin wih their capital at Aurelianum to act as a buffer. Later in the (460s?) Aegidius and the Visigoths allied and destroyed them, and absorbed them into DoS territory.

It would also keep the Roman player considerably occupied, having to fight on 2 fronts. You could also therefore tone down the franks, who seem too powerful to me when it comes to the DoS...

How do you know the franks are too powerful? You payed the beta?

-They are meant to be very strong when united as they did become the prominent European faction in the late 5th century. But as playing the Merovngians you will have your hands very full fighting not only a strong Roman faction, but other Germanic factions as well

Alan's are considered but right now we are at a cut off point. The mod will eventually grow into a few more needed factions. There are several things were are looking at that are on the table and one is is the Visigoth invasion of Gaul that led up to Tours and around Aurelianum
