    Default Which card is better

Hey all, my cousin wants me to upgrade his computer with a new graphics card and i want to know which one is better. I know that these are slowly going obsolete, but hes not really a game, only game he wants is bf2.

    eVGA 6800xt

    or

    eVGA 6600 GT

Edit: Is a DDR3 alot better then DDR because i will make him buy a different one with DDR3 memory instead.

I would guess the 6800 would be better than the 6600.

The 6600 GT series is a great series and has higher speeds and faster DDR3 memory than some 6800s, but overall the 6800s are better cards beacuse of other factors such as pipelines, GB/sec, etc. In your case the 6800xt is a better card, for one it has a more advanced chip with more pipelines, and it has higher speeds than the 6600GT.

DDR3 is a much faster form of memory. What country do you live in, b/c I can search for a card in a certain pricerange for you.

[EDIT] Right now this would definitely be the best mid range card without question and would give you far superior proformance compared to the 6XXX series cards; but it is closer to $170 than $120:

    6800XT.

The 6800XT actually only has 8 pipes, the same as the 6600GT, but what it does have is 256bit memory interface vs the 6600GT's 128bit, so even though the 6800XT only has DDR memory it is still going to be faster than the 6600T's DDR3 because of the 256bit memory interface. And overall the 6800 series core is more efficient, and I think the 6800 has more vertex shaders.

Check the 6800XT's memory bandwith on Tigerdirect's page, it blows the 6600GT away. 19 GB/sec vs 8 GB/sec And BTW thats a VERY good price for a 6800XT I suggest you pounce on that before it sells out

BTW if you are wondering the 6800XT is more than enough to play Battlefield 2 at 1280X1024 with all setting max 2 x AA and 16 x AF, I mean if my 1600Pro can do it a 6800XT should easily be able to do it, and Battlefield 2 is very optomized for nVIDIA cards.
